Social Sanction Is Hard For Indonesian
(Edited)
One of the ways to protect the traditional values of the Indonesian family is through social sanction. One who commits crime or misbehavior will earn social sanction from family communities.
Social sanction is hard. It will make someone's life stressful. Finally, one who is credited with social sanction will apologize to the community and do the right thing. Most families in Indonesia still hold traditional values. Most men are the breadwinners, but in some families in cities, women get jobs too.
What misbehavior in the family values in Indonesia
- Transgenderism A transgender family is a kind of misbehavior. This family will not be accepted socially in family communities. Indonesian people called trans people "Banci". - Living together without marriage between a man and a woman. In western countries, this action may be normal, but not for Indonesians.
- Living together without marriage will be punished socially. Indonesians call the act as "Kumpul Kebo". They all prohibit the commitment. A father will dismiss his daughter from home if she commits to doing this.
- A woman who has a child without marriage. To have a child or a baby, a man or a woman should get married. If there is a woman who has a child from an unknown father, the woman will be called "Wanita nakal" "Naughty woman".
All those misbehaving actors will get social punishment. They will not be invited to the social activities. In very traditional communities, they can be expelled from their houses.
This value may be bad for foreigners, but this is how Indonesian people protect their families and generations. They want to raise their children normally.
