Jailed In January: Sad Experience Of A Generous Man
January was a whole bunch of new experience, I had experienced so many things but one stood out, it was physically, mentally, psychologically and financially draining me, infact, I am yet to recover from the embarrassment, and yes! I won't be shy to tell you how it went.
at the police station
So, just as I shared before now, my landlord had borrowed my Labtop from me with the promise and assurance of bringing it back the same day (08/01/2024), he told me he wanted to use it and edit some videos for his clients since his own Labtop was faulty, more of why I had to risk the Labtop.
Throughout that day, he never brought it back, I was worried owing to the fact that I had encrypted my wallets password into the system and I was supposed to work with the system that night, I called him severally and he never picked my calls, this got me more worried.
The next day came and he still never returned the Labtop, when I used my friend's phone to call him, he picked and when he noticed I was the one, he ended up the call. This got me really disappointed, I was just angry with myself as why I even had to give him my Labtop in the first place.
I was still outside trying to create content over here on Hive when he sneaked in with my Labtop, I asked him to give me the Labtop, he refused and told over his dead body will I get the system from him and as long as I am still living in his compound. I was shocked, "this is my Labtop!!' I screamed, he just never listened and when I pressed further to get it from him, he went inside, brought out a matchet and pursued me.
I ran out of the compound, when I came back home around 1:30am, he had already surrounded the house with police men, I was arrested and detained wrongfully without even getting a single statement from me, from all indications, the police men that arrested me were his friends and allies.
The cold harmattan morning was dreadful, the condition of the cell wasn't for humans I just guessed so as everywhere was littered with excretes, more than 10 people in a room less than 12 ceiling, no fresh air to breath and people were just being tormented by the cell oldies, I was never exempted.
I was denied access to my phone, my Labtop was seized as well, I couldn't forgive myself for being stupidly generous to think I was doing someone a favour and that was where I found myself. When the day finally break, the D.P.O came and asked about my crime, no police officer could say, I was asked to pay a bail of #15,000 naira which was about 35 hive at the moment.
I paid the bail, the refused to return my Labtop as well, I went back home, throughout that day, I couldn't sleep, the night was just hell for me, I kept having nightmares, I was lost in thoughts as why I was treated that way, even a thief never deserved such treatment, this particular experience has been stuck on my brain till today I find it difficult to even help someone make call with my phone, right now I don't even know how to let this go and focus, cos some days are just really weird that I will keep reminiscing the way I was treated and somehow cringe. This was my worst experience in years.
I can’t even believe my eyes!
You were wrongfully detained for giving your laptop to someone to use?
How?
This is definitely the most annoying arrest I’ve ever heard
I’m sorry about all that
I hope you’re leaving that house
I am sure leaving the house when my rent expires, it dosent really make sense, but then it's a lesson to learn.
Thank you for dropping by my friend.
