Root Causes vs The Art of the Deal

Why are so many Latinos voting for or supporting the “evil orange man”?
Maybe it’s not because they love him.
Maybe it’s not because they dream of the American lifestyle.
Maybe it’s because they’d actually like their own countries to be livable so they don’t have to migrate in the first place.
Back on June 8, 2021, Kamala Harris gave a beautiful speech about addressing the “root causes” of migration in Latin America. The words were fantastic polished, thoughtful, compassionate… almost poetic.
She said:
“Most people don’t want to leave home. And when they do, it is usually for one of two reasons: either they are fleeing harm or to stay home means they cannot satisfy the basic needs of their families.”
And you know what? She was absolutely right.
Across Latin America people aren’t asking for luxury. They’re not asking for yachts, Teslas, or beachfront penthouses.
They’re asking for the basics:
• Electricity that doesn’t disappear like a magician’s trick
• Grocery stores that actually have food on the shelves
• Streets where you’re less likely to get robbed or killed
• Water that runs every day, not every third Tuesday
• Jobs that pay enough to feed your kids
That’s it. No miracles required.
If a country becomes even 20–30% safer and more stable, millions of people would gladly stay home with their families instead of risking their lives migrating.
Because migration usually happens when life becomes impossible when corruption runs everything, jobs vanish, crime explodes, and hope packs its bags and leaves town.
But don’t worry. We’ve had decades of beautiful speeches about fixing all that.
Amazing speeches. Historic speeches. Award-winning speeches.
Just a tiny shortage of actual results.
So maybe just maybe some Latinos aren’t voting for Trump because they like him.
Maybe they’re voting for him because after a lifetime of hearing elegant promises and inspirational speeches… they’re curious what it looks like when someone actually does something.
