Realmente no había pensado mucho en las cosas desde que perdí mi trabajo. La depresión muchas veces me impedía levantarme de mi cama. Había muchos días en los que pretendía no despertar. Un día cualquiera me levanté y revisé la alacena. Ya no quedaba nada comestible, nada que al menos no se hubiera echado a perder por el tiempo. Así que tomé los últimos ahorros que me quedaban y me dispuse a caminar. Sabía que esto era lo último de dinero, cuando lo gastara ya no podría gastar más en nada. Pensé de mil formas en cómo no gastarlo, cómo simplemente aguantar un día más. Todos los caminos me llevaban al mismo lugar: si no tienes comida, debes comprarla o no comerás. Y ¿cuánto tiempo puedes estar sin comer si no obtienes dinero nuevamente?

I hadn't really given things much thought since I lost my job. Depression often prevented me from getting out of bed. There were many days when I pretended not to wake up. Después de un determinado tiempo, bajó con un hombre de traje, canoso, que usaba un bastón. Este hombre sonriente me miró a los ojos y me dijo: "Veo que tienes hambre, que necesitas de verdad un trabajo que vuelva a poner vida en tus ojos. Pero la pregunta es: ¿te gustaría trabajar simplemente acomodando productos y colocando precios?".

After a certain time, he came down with a gray-haired man in a suit who used a cane. This smiling man looked me in the eye and said: "I see that you are hungry, that you really need a job that brings life back to your eyes. But the question is: would you like to work simply arranging products and setting prices?".

My eyes reddened again. This man was probably not understanding the situation, but he was saving my life. Without hesitating I told him: "Of course I would do it with all my pleasure. Con el tiempo, Juan me ofreció una promoción y empecé a trabajar como cajero en la tienda. Me encantaba mi trabajo, no solo por el hecho de tener un salario y poder pagar mis deudas, sino también por el ambiente cálido y amable de mis compañeros de trabajo y de los clientes del supermercado.

Desde ese día en que entré en el supermercado de Juan, mi vida cambió por completo. Ya no tenía que preocuparme por el hambre o por el futuro incierto, y mi depresión fue desapareciendo poco a poco. Aprendí a valorar lo que tenía y a ser agradecido por las pequeñas cosas de la vida.

Since that day when I entered Juan's supermarket, my life changed completely. I no longer had to worry about hunger or the uncertain future, and my depression gradually lifted. I learned to value what I had and to be grateful for the little things in life.

Mirando hacia atrás, nunca imaginé que un día de compras en un supermercado me cambiaría la vida de una forma tan radical. Pero así es la vida, nunca sabes cuándo algo inesperado te puede llevar a un nuevo camino lleno de oportunidades.

Looking back, I never imagined that a day of shopping in a supermarket would change my life in such a radical way. But that's life, you never know when something unexpected can lead you to a new path full of opportunities.
