Elephant and Sparrow (fable)

Elephant and Sparrow

Grass rustled in the field,
Birds sang in the sky.
Sparrow walked along the path
And met big Elephant.

"Hi, Sparrow! - says Elephant. -
How are you, where are you going?"

"I'm going to river bank,
I want to swim and sunbathe," - Sparrow replies.

"No, Sparrow, - says Elephant. -
You are too small and too weak,
You will drown in river!
Current will carry you into dark depths!"

"But I can swim, - Sparrow replies. -
My wings are small but fast,
And I know what to do in the water,
I can stay on the surface."

Elephant shook his head
And sighed heavily:
"Naive youth, you are going to die,
We won't see each other anymore."

Sparrow continued his way to river,
Dancing and flapping wings.
He jumped into the water and swam.
Elephant looked at him anxiously.

Sparrow began to dive into water,
And every time Elephant's heart sank,
Every time he mentally said goodbye to Sparrow,
After all, he was not evil being.

But Sparrow emerged alive every time
And waved his wing to Elephant.
Sparrow was pleased with excitement of Elephant,
Even if he tried not to show it.

And after another immersion in water
Sparrow raised began to look for Elephant,
But he did not find him on the shore.
"Elephant felt unwanted and left," - people explained.

The original text was written by me in Russian. I haven't studied English systematically, so translation may not be ideal. The main work was done by Google Translate, I just corrected obvious absurdities, where I noticed them and where I did not confuse them with brilliant insights.
