Fox and Jinn

In the mysterious forest, under the moonlight,
Fox found a jug with ancient Jinn.
"How glad I am of our meeting! - said Fox, -
Grant my wishes, magical spirit."

Jinn smiled and said respectfully:
"Fox, I heard about your reputation,
But you can only choose one wish.
Think carefully, your decision will be final."

Fox thought, turning over in her mind,
What would she wish for all dreams to come true.
"I want to have great power and authority,
To be the strongest in the universe!"

Jinn paused, his eyes piercing Fox's soul.
"You chose power, but remember responsibility.
Great power always requires deep understanding.
You will always have to think about the consequences."

Fox nodded, agreeing with Jinn's wise words.
"You're right, great power comes with great responsibility,
Then let wisdom be my only desire,
And its endless growth, so that it does not stop."

Jinn expressed satisfaction with all his appearance.
"Your choice of wisdom pleases me much more.
Wisdom is strength that no one can take away from you.
It further increases your importance in the world,
You will have to be responsible for all living beings."

Fox seemed to be crushed to the ground by stone,
This is how she felt her belonging to all things.
"Well, in that case, I'd better choose conscience,
To understand clearly what every living soul needs."

"Great, this is truly the best choice ever.
Infinite conscience will turn you into a goddess
Although you will never see joy or peace again,
Eternal pangs of conscience will not leave you."

Jinn pulled out a couple of hairs from his beard
And did something else appropriately magical.
Before disappearing, he confessed, saying goodbye:
"I'll be proud all my life that I once met you!"

Fox sat down on a stump and thought harder.
"I didn't quite understand what I got from Jinn.
Not strength and not wisdom, but infinite conscience?
Looks like I've lost my mind, I wish I'd gone past Jinn.
No wonder they stuffed this old bastard into a jug!"

Having said this, Fox instantly repented,
Conscience began to gnaw at her from the inside,
And ahead was a whole life of endless torment.

The original text was written by me in Russian. I haven't studied English systematically so the translation may not be ideal. The main work was done by Google Translate, I just corrected obvious absurdities, where I noticed them and where I did not confuse them with brilliant insights.
