Last and First (fable)

Last and First

In the ancient world, among good people,
There lived two friends, First and Last.
First was leader, proud and brave.
Last was submissive and quiet being.

First chased fame and power,
He was always first in everything.
Last strove for peaceful existence,
He was last almost everywhere,
But he had warmth in soul.

One day First decided to have competition,
To determine who is more important and famous.
"Victory will be mine! - First said proudly. -
I am the most powerful and strong-willed!"

Last smiled and said calmly:
"Essence of truth is not in power, not in primacy.
It is important to live in peace with surrounding space,
And respect others despite all differences."

Competition began, First ran fast,
He showed his strength and power.
Last walked to finish line slowly,
He enjoyed every step and good weather.

At the end of road, where was finish line,
First was alone, tired and sad.
And Last, even though he was the last one,
Reached finish with smile and in good mood.

As Confucius said, "last will be first",
Although it is possible that Confucius did not say this,
It doesn't matter, main thing is that we like this idea.
Keep going, friends, don't stop.

The original text was written by me in Russian. I haven't studied English systematically, so translation may not be ideal. The main work was done by Google Translate, I just corrected obvious absurdities, where I noticed them and where I did not confuse them with brilliant insights.
