A few days ago, I received a game recommendation from someone who came across one of my posts. @whoisjohn recommended a game called “I Wanna Be The Guy.” That day’s gameplay was based on Level Devil, and if you’ve been following my posts, you’ll definitely know that game by now. 😂 I’ve already made two videos featuring Level Devil, mainly because of how frustrating, unpredictable, and challenging the game can be.
After seeing my gameplay, @whoisjohn suggested that I give I Wanna Be The Guy a try. From what I’ve heard, this is another game that is well known for being extremely difficult and frustrating, which honestly makes me even more curious to see what I’m getting myself into. 😅
Since I enjoy challenging games that can test my patience and gaming skills, I decided to check it out. Who knows, maybe this could be the next game to make me rage like Level Devil did.
Based on what I saw online,, I wanna be the guy was released in 2007 by developer Michael "Kayin" O'Reilly, I Wanna Be The Guy (often abbreviated as IWBTG) is not just a video game. It is an endurance test and one of the most notorious "rage games" ever created.
At its surface, the premise is simple. You play as "The Kid," a small boy who dreams of becoming "The Guy," a legendary video game hero. To achieve this, he must traverse a world full of platforms, enemies, and bosses until he reaches the final confrontation. What makes the game legendary, however, is not just the story, but the execution. IWBTG is intentionally, maliciously difficult. Every screen is packed with traps that appear with no warning. Cherries shoot deadly spikes, apples fall from the sky with perfect aim😅. Death is not a setback in IWBTG, it is the core gameplay loop. The player is expected to die hundreds, even thousands of times to memorize patterns and learn through failure. The infamous "Delicious Fruit" sound effect that plays when an apple hits you has become a meme in its own right, symbolizing the game’s cruel humor.
The levels and bosses are direct parodies of classics like Super Mario Bros. Mega Man Castlevania Tetris and Ghosts n Goblins. The final boss rush pits The Kid against nearly every major Nintendo villain in one continuous fight. This makes IWBTG feel less like an original game and more like a chaotic remix of everything that defined a generation of platformers.
In the end, I Wanna Be The Guy is more than just hard. It captures the frustration and joy of old school gaming, exaggerates it to an extreme, and dares the player to keep going anyway. It doesn’t want you to have fun in the traditional sense. It wants you to suffer😅 and laugh at the same time😊.
After seeing the recommendation from @whoisjohn, I became curious about the game, so I decided to check out some videos of I Wanna Be The Guy to see exactly what kind of torture I was about to sign up for. 😂 After watching a few gameplay videos, I went straight to the Play Store to see if I could download it. Unfortunately, I discovered that the game had been removed from the Play Store. 😭 I wasn't ready to give up just yet, so I searched for another way to get it and eventually found the game on Itch.io.
I downloaded it from there, but unfortunately, after downloading the file, my phone kept showing "Can't open file." 😩 At that point, it felt like the universe was doing everything possible to stop me from playing this game. 😂 I almost gave up completely. But I wasn't ready to surrender that easily! I started searching for games similar to I Wanna Be The Guy, and that's when I came across today's game, I Wanna Be The Jumper 2.
When I looked at the images of both games, I immediately noticed how very, very similar they looked. 🤔 That made me wonder if I Wanna Be The Jumper 2 could be some sort of mobile version or a game heavily inspired by the original I Wanna Be The Guy. Since it was available on the Play Store, I decided to download it and see for myself what the gameplay feels like. Today's video is the complete gameplay of Level 1, including the boss fight at the end. The game is already proving to be quite tricky, but I'm not going to judge it too quickly because this is only Level 1. I'm expecting things to get much more difficult once I progress further into the game. I've learned my lesson from Level Devil. 😂 The first time I played that game, I completely underestimated it because the early stages didn't seem too difficult. Well... we all know how that ended. 💀 I eventually took back everything I said about the game being easy.
So this time, I'm not making the same mistake. I'm NOT going to underestimate I Wanna Be The Jumper 2. 😤 If Level 1 is already giving me a little trouble, I can only imagine what the later levels have waiting for me. But now I have a question for @whoisjohn 👀, is this what "I Wanna Be The Guy" actually feels like? 😂 Or do I need to progress much further in I Wanna Be The Jumper 2 before I experience the real torture? Just to be clear, this isn't the actual I Wanna Be The Guy as I mentioned earlier. This is I Wanna Be The Jumper 2, which I found while searching for similar games. I mainly want to know how closely the two games are related. Are they actually very similar in terms of gameplay and difficulty, or are they completely different experiences? 🤔
