Self Driving Cars - Ethical Concerns

Greetings to my Cent Family and all my fellow Hivers on the Blockchain. It's always an absolute pleasure to wake up with a fresh start and with more chance to share some thoughts and concerns with everyone.

As you already know, I @skyehi am always interested in sharing technology based content which will both inspire us on the future possibilities of our world and also entertain tech enthusiasts.

In today's blog posts we're going straight into Elon Musk's living room😂 - I'm just kidding we're talking about self driving cars today.

Well I won't necessarily be talking about how cool self driving cars are because I'm pretty sure you're already aware of that. 😁 Let's be honest, in today's technological world and age, self driving cars are gaining huge traction and popularity.

The thought of not having to stress yourself with long hours of driving or even the safety that comes with it since Robots may be more reasonable with the issue of over speeding than us human rights. This makes people very excited about the concept of self driving or autonomous vehicles.

And the biggest reason which no one will tell you about why people love self driving cars is that it looks cool and looks like the future.

Now because of the Artificial Intelligence and advanced technological upgrades on self driving cars, it's going to promise or possibly assure less road accidents in the future and give us convenience when it comes to long travels. That's the one time you see people complaining about driving, when they have to do it for a long time nonstop.

However there are a few ethical concerns that I have decided to share with everyone. Let's get right into the issue guys.

One of the biggest concerns for me is the issue we will have with Artificial Intelligence or Algorithms making the decisions for us on the road. You see there are situations where it will only take human feeling and understanding to be able to make a decision.

Let me give a classic example. Assuming you're driving on the road with other cars at the opposite side of the Lanes and suddenly a pregnant woman tries to cross the road without noticing that you're coming. Now you have two choices as a human being, since there's really not enough time to hit the breaks, you can either try to avoid hitting the woman but really risk hitting other cars and causing even bigger damage or hit the breaks as hard as you can to hopefully cause less damage with the woman.

I'll have to be honest with you, I myself wouldn't know what to do in such a tight situation. Now the question is what will a self driving car do in a situation like this? That's the issue of decision making.

Since algorithms are used to make autonomous or self driving vehicles work, should the programming of the car be that they give higher safety priority to you the owner in the car or to the pregnant women on the road?

I would definitely love to hear your thoughts on that in the comments section guys.

Now here's another serious issue. In the situation or the scenario I just painted, who is to be blamed if the Self driving car decides to run over the pregnant woman knowing that making the other choice will put you in the car at serious risk. Do you get blamed for causing the accident or the woman. And who's paying for the insurance because it ain't me. 😁

I would also love to hear your answer on that situation guys. 😂 This is what we call a real life dilemma right 😂.

Now let's talk job opportunities. I was saving this for the last but I'm pretty sure my readers were expecting to hear this. Yep, Uber drivers are in some deep waters when self driving cars become a thing for everyone. There's going to be serious loss of job.

However I've been thinking. 🤔

Even if Autonomous vehicles become popular, what the uber driver will do is probably to swap his car for an autonomous car and have it run like a taxi with no employee driver. Problem solved. You get to own the car and run it without having to drive and make profits. All you will need is to insure the car and pay for damages. You basically become a business man and can buy more cars. That is unless of course the government does not start banning such a business to monopolize it 😒💔

There's also the fact that your car has to know you and your information in order to work more effectively. This means they will have access to your information. If I buy a Rolls Royce and the Royce has to take my information, does the information go to the Rolls Royce Company? This raises up privacy policy concerns right.

Well wouldn't want to make my post too long so I'll end it right here. Even though these concerns are pretty serious, I'm sure car manufacturing companies are already working on how to solve these futuristic problems.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read my blog post today. I hope you enjoyed it as always. I'll be more than happy to get your feedback based on the scenario I painted. Maybe someone would have a smart way to solve such a problem. Until we meet again. Have a lovely day guys. Bye. ❤️
