A 2006 Gold Eagle Beauty!

As I mentioned in my last post I have been sorting through some old photos on my laptop. Mainly family photos from trips we have taken over the years, always great memories in every one! I came across several images I had taken for insurance purposes of some of my coins, although I'm not sure why I kept them on my laptop. This one is $5 one tenth ounce gold American Eagle from 2006.

In 1904 President Theodore Roosevelt wanted to beautify American coinage. He recommended Augustus Saint-Gaudens for the task of creating the new design. The process was plagued with delays due to problems with the high relief design as well as the sculptors failing health. In 1907 Saint-Gaudens died after completing the new coin's design but before they finalized for production so sadly he never got to see the finished product. They were produced from 1907 until 1933.

The US Mint started to produce bullion coins with Saint-Gaudens design in 1986. The reverse was changed to a design by Miley Busiek. They are produced with 22K gold (91.67% gold/ 5.3% copper/ 3% silver.

I hope you enjoyed my quick post, I love the fractional gold coins because they are much more affordable to pick up especially with the current price of gold. If you have any questions or comments please feel free to add them below. Have a great day!

And my disclaimer: Gold and silver stacking can be a fun hobby but isn't for everyone. You can lose money. I'm not a financial advisor and this isn't financial advice, please always do your own research before spending your hard earned money.

That is a beauty. I agree, fractional does make it much easier for schmucks like us to be able to purchase gold. I am glad they make them. I only have one gold coin and it is a 1/10 ouncer like this one. I posted it a while back. Do you have any plans to pick up more in the future? I've been tryin to pick up some older dated stuff but keep getting outbid at auction and the dealers just want too much.

I once found a 1986 one tenth ounce in a jewelry shop and paid spot. It was worth about three times that! I want to pick up more if I can find a good price, right now it's tough to find anything at a descent price. I like early US coins too, but so many are cleaned on eBay. Now I will only buy graded older coins to avoid the cleaning issue!

Yeah, I have been staying away from eBay anymore except for a couple of trusted sellers I use on there. I use couple other auction sites like greatcollections and hibid.

I love the image of the eagle arriving at the nest. It is not usually a common image.

I agree, it was a very cool design but they retired it for a close up on a bald eagle now.

I like fractional gold because it is affordable! Easier to liquidate too!

You're right on both points! Not everyone has cash to buy a full troy ounce.
