A Pretty Silver Lady Liberty From New Orleans!
New Orleans is best known for the French Quarter and wild Mardi Gras celebrations. You can buy Beignets, Poboys, fresh seafood and take in hundreds of years of history. It hasn't always been such a nice place to visit. In the 1880's New Orleans was recovering from the Civil War and had a population just over two hundred thousand. The slave trade had been abolished which was formerly a huge industry there. The city was forced to reinvent itself. In 1884 they hosted the World's Fair starting tourism and in 1886 electric lights were introduced in limited areas. Summers would be hot and humid with no air conditioning, lots of mosquitos, and many people probably didn't smell too good.
The US mint in New Orleans was up an running in 1879 following the war. The city was a great place for the mint because of it's strategic position on the Mississippi river. It was producing dimes, quarters, half dollar, dollars, $5 gold half eagles, and $10 gold eagles. Lots and lots of silver and gold! This coin was produced in 1884 and has weathered the years well. Although it has some wear it's still a beautiful coin in my personal (and probably biased) opinion.

Many coins from the New Orleans mint are easy to find and usually not too expensive unless you are looking for really high grades. There are always some years and varieties that are hard to find, but that's part of the fun of collecting and stacking. I know I've mentioned it before buy Morgan's are one of my favorites with a timeless design. It may not be as pretty as the Peace dollar but something about having an older coin in your hand and just imagining the journey it has taken.
Have a great day everyone! Thanks for stopping by to checkout my post, please feel free to comment or ask any questions. Keep on stacking!
And my disclaimer: Gold and silver stacking can be a fun hobby but isn't for everyone. You can lose money. I'm not a financial advisor and this isn't financial advice, please always do your own research before spending your hard earned money.

I think I'll get some Morgans from the New Orleans Mint... if they are available. Did you say they did not cost so much?
They aren't too bad, this one might be worth around $65 since it's AU, the MS 60 start around 75 and MS 65 at least $250. So you can get nice ones for pretty good prices, but really nice specimens are expensive.
Nice one. The New Orleans Mint ones are known for weak detail and weak strikes, that’s why most of them are cheaper.
I agree, many of them are. But I have seen some incredible DMPL coins that came out of there, of course they're so uncommon that they are outside my budget.
Beautiful Morgan in my biased opinion as well Lol!😇
So much American history was happening in 1884, when this coin was in the pocket of someone!😇😊
Thanks, it's a keeper! The history is interesting but living back then would have been tough!
It would be tough, no A/C, no indoor plumbing etc…..😳
It would suck....
Most definitely, my friend !😳

Looks like a good one!
Thanks! How are things in Japan?
Pretty good so far. It's rainy season right now so the summer heat hasn't hit yet.
It's already getting very warm here, but the beach isn't too far away!
Enjoy the beach! I always enjoy it, though I don't have a chance to go as often as I'd like.
I like the detail on Morgans more than the peace dollars. This one looks AU to my untrained eye. I have bought very few Morgans, so I don't really know what I am looking for, but I think it looks great!! !LUV

If you look at her ear you can see some wear on it and the surrounding hair, definitely a solid AU. The details are what I love about Morgan dollars, it's too bad our coins look like crap these days compared to a Morgan!
And Anne Rice's 1888 Victorian Mansion in the Garden district is the place to be at Halloween.🦇
That is a cool place! I've never been there for Halloween but that would be awesome! How was it?
The Anne Rice Estate can sure throw a Halloween party. I've seen pictures and videos of what happens there. The Tickets are very pricey of course.
Anne Rice is the author of the Vampire Chronicles.
I actually do know she is and I've been to the estate on my of my trips down there before the hurricane. If the tickets are pricey the event must be worth it!
