Silver 5 Pesos coin from Mexico / Re-blog lottery for a chance to win 3 HSBI!

If you have read some of my posts you already know I enjoy collecting coins from Central and South America. Mexico being part of Central America (as well as North America) has always been one of my favorites when it comes to coin collecting. Ironically in all my years of travelling I've only been to Mexico a couple of times, and those were at border cities going down for the day or to get dinner with friends. That was before all the cartel problems they are suffering through now. As a result most of my Mexican collection I picked up while living in the US southwest where there is a plethora of coins available to collect being so close to the border.

Mexico has had a long and complicated history after Spanish conquistadors conquered the Aztecs. It was a Spanish territory until independence was achieved in 1821. One of the biggest figures in the push for independence from Spain was Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla. He was a very interesting man who trained and became a Catholic priest. However he had children with several women despite his vows of chastity. In 1810 when the movement arrived to become independent from Spain he raised an 800 man army to try to win freedom from Spain. This soon ballooned to between eighty and one hundred thousand men. They clashed with the royal army which was much better trained and forced him to retreat towards the USA. In 1811 Hidalgo was then betrayed and captured by the Spanish loyalists. After torturing him he was executed likely by firing squad, then decapitated and his head put on display for ten years to warn others thinking of fighting for independence.

But his memory lived on and further inspired the push for independence. He is remembered as the father of Mexico which explains why his likeness is on the 5 Peso coin from 1955. I believe I found this one is a jewelry shop in Arizona at some point. It's a beautiful coin with a lot of history behind it. Have a look!

Mexico has produced beautiful coinage for many years and are definitely worth collecting. I've always enjoyed picking up a variety of coins produced in Mexico from the older varieties like this one to the Libertad bullion rounds they produce today. If you're a coin collector or stacker I'm sure you probably have a few nice Mexican coins in your stack. If you don't they are great to collect, although premiums have risen dramatically on them over the last few years.

Thanks so much for stopping by and taking the time to read my post. I really appreciate everyone's kind support. If you have any questions, suggestions, or comments please feel free to leave them below. Have a great day everyone! Keep on stacking!

And my disclaimer: Gold and silver stacking can be a fun hobby but isn't for everyone. You can lose money. I'm not a financial advisor and this isn't financial advice, please always do your own research before spending your hard earned money.

Nice coin as usual. You're right, Mexico has minted some really nice coins, and did so consistently for so long. I've only been to Tijuana once and I was too busy trying to deal with all the kahlua and horse blankets and hoodies to get any coins 😂

The world has never been a kind place, and Mexico in the early 1800's was no exception!

I had friends that would go down to Mexico often a few years ago.
they told stories of how the Mexican border guards wanted bribes to let them come through!
At one point they wanted their credit card !😲

I never had that problem thank goodness! I Nogales you can just walk through a one way turnstile and you're in Mexico, no guards and no one cared. But coming back into the US you had to go through a line and present your documents to get back in!

That’s interesting, I believe one time my friend, turned around, waited about an hour for the guards to change, and then they crossed the border with no problem.

Ok let's give this reblog thing a try as I'm not publishing anything myself currently anyway. I normally keep my account clean from all these reblogs and rarely do this. But I think a chance of winning some HSBI is not bad :)

Hope your foot is behaving better today!

Day by day a little better, hopefully it keeps it up! How is your back holding up? Thanks for the re-blog, I don't usually do many re-blogs either, so I really do appreciate it. How was your day?

Well, a chance to win here and there is nice, so I may tune in more often for that lottery :)

I have the results from the MRI, although some what was written is not really clear, one thing that was clear is that it stated "L5-S1 Discopathy" had to google this myself but it seems I will need physio indeed but the treatment will probably depend on the total results of the MRI and X-ray.

I did an attempt quitting the meds a few days ago, only to have the radiated pain come back FULL force, while I replaced the meds for those that the trauma do prescribed. I ended up taking the other one late at night as I could not handle it anymore.

Earlier this week, I did the x-ray and I can't make anything of those images as I'm not an expert, but it was very clear to me that the position of my hip is uneven (they already told me when I was pregnant the first time) so I'm guessing the extreme sounds my hip is making (it also hurts a lot) is caused by that. This is something I need to tell the trauma doc in a few weeks as it's probably all connected...

I hope your foot is doing better, or is it still flaring up?

Was it a written report (hopefully not hand written?) Discopathy is kind of a generic term radiologists use to say it's not normal but don't want to commit to a diagnosis. Physical therapy is still the ideal option and I hope it helps. It sucks to have pain that makes life miserable, I hope the meds you have help. Going off them may not be a good idea with the pain you're having, I'm sorry, that really sucks!

One hip is higher than the other side? Did they ever try to figure out why? That is rough, sounds miserable..

Foot is still there, not better nor worse. I take that as a win! I really miss being 21, back then nothing hurt!

Haha, I feel you! Last week when I had these shitty days with pain, I was like damn, I wish I was young again.. My age never really bothers me honestly but these parts breaking down do :)

Yeah it was written report and the scan was included to so the doc will check that himself as well.. We'll see what he says later this month. I wonder what he will call it then if that's not the actual diagnosis. I'm confident the physical therapy won't have to take forever as there are many options near us (just need to check which ones are included with our insurance) so with some luck, I won't have to wait weeks but only days once he refers me.

The hip, yeah one side of my hip is lower than the other so I can imagine that all these years hearing my hip making the knack sound while walking just meant because I'm uneven :) lol.. With some logical thinking all of that may cause the other things to start hurting and getting out of form etc..

Anyway, today is a good day so far in terms of pain, but it's so freaking humid today that I'm going to jump in the car when the tutor arrives to get to the supermarket as today I'm not affected by the med (some days is worse than others) going to take advantage of that to get some "fresh" air.

I hope you have a good weekend!

Good for you! Get out and enjoy that fresh air while during the good days. Too bad the wait is so long to get back in with him. Hopefully the physical therapy will strengthen those muscles enough to make it a lot better. I'm sure the doctor will address the hip issue as well, if not ask him. It may be the whole entire problem!

I wouldn't mind being a few years younger, but oh well! I hope you had a productive day and get some time to relax today!

Yeah definitely good. Honestly, its still close to 30 degrees but I've already had several evenings that I felt cold inside haha. So funny how this is perceived the weather sometimes isn't it.

I actually had a good day, hope you did too!
