True Silver Work of Art, A 1935 Peace Dollar
I was browsing through some old pictures on my laptop yesterday. Trying to get things more organized so I find things more easily. I found many pictures of my son and trips and many trips all over southern California among other places, lots of great memories! I came across a few older photos I had taken of some of my collection for insurance reasons. This beauty was among them.
The Peace dollar was a replacement for the older Morgan design. It was designed by an Italian immigrant by the name of Anthony de Francisci. There was a rush at the mint to receive new design applications, Fracisci didn't have time to hire a model so he used his wife Teresa de Francisci for the design and added some features from the Statue of Liberty. The result was a beautiful work of art in the Peace dollar. It was produced from 1921 until 1935, and again starting in 2021 but with 0.999 silver.

Peace dollars are sweet. I’ve been trying to find a really nice 1921 high relief for some time now.
Those high relief ones are really hard to find in good condition. I've always got my eyes out there, but either it's overpriced or it's just not a real nice one.
To tell you frankly, I prefer the lovely Peace Dollars to the Morgans!

The Peace dollar design is really beautiful, more so than Morgan I agree. I guess it's just the history of the Morgan's that I love, but the Peace design is truly a timeless beauty!

It would be a shame to lose one of these beautiful silver dollars, but at least you know you would be compensated!!
I was forced to when I starting keeping some in safe deposit boxes, A policy later I was forced to have appraisals on coins over a certain dollar amount.... I hate insurance companies! Always a good idea to have photos though of every coin you you own or exact weight of bullion in case of disaster or robbery.

I learned a long time ago that if anything ever happens to you, your safety deposit boxes are sealed until your estate goes through the court system !😳
I pulled everything out of them for just that reason after my last divorce and found a much better option. But I do still keep everything insured just in case!

Nice little piece of history there and nice silver dollar too. My younger son collects with me. He just started putting together a set of Peace dollars, and I mean just started. He is looking for the 1921 at a good price and reasonable condition to get started.
That 1921 high relief is a tough one in good condition, especially at a good price! That's great that your son enjoys collecting like us, it's a great hobby!

I think he does it to spend time with his old man more than anything. I can't do the outdoorsy physical things like I used to with him when he was young, so we have found other things now to do together.
