Shift the exchange of gifts to January 6th. That's when the Magi offered their gifts to the Christ child, and prices drop back to bargain levels once Christmas Day is past. If everyone is willing to wait, then it's win-win for everyone and without the hassles.
Honestly, I'm good skipping gifting for the most part. Family is what the holidays are about.
