No I will not "Follow the Science" Blindly- Science is not Religion

one thing that really has ground my gears into dust these past 2 years as hearing people say "follow the science". I have become grumpy when this notion is thrown around, and as a worker in a scientific field, I need to voice my concerns.

Science is not a religion, science is not an ideology and science is not politics. Science is a method and a methodology to evaluate observations in nature. It is something we use to evaluate what we see and what we observe systematically.

Science involves observations, hypothesis formulation, methods, experimentation, statistical analysis and results. And yes, the result of the scientific method is an acceptance or rejection of a hypothesis.

Blindly following what you hear in the media is not science. You need to read studies, create a hypothesis and use statistics and methods to come to a conclusion. Does your honest and concrete conclusion support the hypothesis you created?

Let's talk about bias. The scientific method should not have any bias that includes politics or anything of that nature. so many people who decide to "follow the science" or follow with the mainstream media says are completely biased and it will make up their minds before any hypothesis is proven. you cannot try to go in and put all the evidence towards your hypothesis that's bad science.

Next let's talk about statistical analysis. As you "follow the science" are you really reading the actual studies are you looking at the graphs are you looking at the numbers or you simply parroting with the mainstream media says?

critical thinking is something you should learn as you grow up and college is a great place to hone that skill. there are many other places you can do so as well you can do it online for free you can research you can learn about these things and if you're interested you can become quite adept in the scientific method. Make sure that if you're going to be looking at something you are unbiased and make sure that you're fully using the method if you say that you're going to "follow the science".
