Stray Animals All Around | A Growing Concern

At time when I start thinking of stray animals moving about, I use to think Nigeria is a dumping site especially when it come to dogs and cat, you can literally see them in every corners, the rise is just too much to bear and most of the time, they have no benefit but causing more harms than we can every imagine, unlike some countries where stray dogs are always care for or adopted by people who are animal lovers, in this part of the world, once you are stray, the hatred will increase, people see them as filthy, at some point I really don't blame this kind of dogs or cats, at times I feel pity for them, they feed on scraps and at times go on days without food and once they sight you with food, they start looking at you with pity eyes

This are the most common stray dog here in my country, there was a time when this kind of dogs were really common, people use them as hunting dogs, some kept them as pet and some just for breeding purpose so they can sell for cheap (wait back then the price was really high) and at times when the babies are too much and they have no one interested, they just give them out to anyone willing to take them without the option fi they will be able to take care of them or not, at times they free their dogs to fend for themselves and they end up getting pregnant which lead to uncontrolled breeding and at the end lead to abandonment. The funniest part was when I started seeing foreign dogs (samoyed) on the street moving around with the normal street dogs, I just cant comprehend how someone will buy that kind of samoyed and let it wander around, a pet dog for that matter.

The adoption system here is zero, no one cares as long as the dogs isn't their own and this have pose dangerous impact of human health as a whole, these kind of dogs are left unkept, no vaccine or drugs given to them and they are rabies carried which is one dangerous disease which can easily be transmitted from dogs bites or scratch, I remember when I was young, I think in JS class, people use to say if a dog eat rat heart, it will go mad (as they believe), so this very day, a mad dog bit a young girl on her way to school, like it was a serious event, the girl was badly wounded on her hand and people and to chased this dog till they kill it, I also witness one in a hospital that I went to just to see the doctor, they rush a girl in because of dog bite also, this stuff are really scary.

There was a day I almost got mauled by 3 dogs, that day I was late to school and I tried taking a shortcut, but I was running instead of just walking because I was really late, due to that I didn't notice 3 dogs sitting pretty some distance away from me, they were at alert position when they saw me and I stopped immediately, within seconds, different thought ran through my mind, I don't know what to do, If i should run towards them as fast as i can or just stay there looking at them, well I followed my mind and I ran back to the direction I was coming from and they chased me like a thief, I was shouting on top of my voice for help and when I realised no help was coming, I feint like I want to pick sand/stone and they all ran back, I can never forget that day and the experience made me hate dogs.

Years later, a friend of mine got a german shepard dog which I got use to from puppy till it turn big, the way we play around made me start liking dogs and till now I still which to have my own dogs when the time come preferably German or a caucasian
