IMPORTANT - Changing my HiveEngine links!

Testing Cloudflare

I have been now testing cloudflare IPv6 behaviour (even redirected one) and it looks like they might either be removing more resources from IPv4 (from free accounts) or that protocol is getting messier and messier... (more competition on free accounts)

Reality is that IPv6 has a lot more diversity of attacks and therefore "defaultly increased sparse difficulty on protection" from a shorter time frame for firewalls and filters that rely on time-based blocking techniques.

But wait a minute, isn't this your domain?

Yes, it is, but because I "hide" it behind Cloudflare, it means your IP's get challenged by Cloudflare, not me! That means that if you do stuff that Cloudflare does not approve, you get bad reputation, etc... its a default for me to eliminate 99% of bots, etc.

If you are a developer, a witness, or wish to use my real IPs, you can check my witness broadcasts, and you should find a direct route to me.

The New Links

They are basically the same thing, but they get prefixed with "v6-".

The ones everyone needs are...

(Note: my server is at New Zealand, and therefore your distance to my servers matters, if the apps I am exemplifying here are also very distant from New Zealand, that would impact performance too, although the purpouse of this is not to defy phisics and make me be the best node... but instead, help with decentralization.)

Some examples of where you can use these links

(Hive Keychain)

And probably on many other apps... but these are just examples of apps I fully support because they allow decentralised choice!

Good to know about the IPv6 changes and firewall impact! 🤔 Keeping our racing stable secure is key! 🐎

It's mostly a free accounts problem... paying accounts can get re-routed... and they will see a performance impact. But I can't sustain that cost.

Would prefer to open up publicly to the world by then. But that might need some infrastructure changes, which I am not yet prepared to commit to (cost wise).

Cloudflare is known to tests on free accounts(which makes sense, when you aren't paying for the product, you are the product).

Yep... Hope they see what I try and don't like!

Have seen traffic to domains on free plan routed to datacenters much further way than it should in the past, depending on how loaded CF DCs are and peering arrangements between visitor's ISP and CF. Higher tier plans may improve routing but there is no guarantee unless it uses Argo (there is a tester for that here).

The only reason I use CF is to get around CGNAT using CF Tunnels without having to pay for and manage a nearby VPS.

Your ISP doesn't provide v6 alongside the CGNAT?

They provide a public /64 but the tunnel is still needed for DDoS protection and for v4 users to reach.

Yeah... it's exactly the problem with Cloudflare. Unless you pay to select where you exit for each customer automatically (via the Argo feature), you get stuck with whatever gateway they choose. I am almost all the time connected via Europe, unsure why...

If you could at least choose a fixed single one... maybe there is a way, but I never saw it.

I have native IPv6, by the way. All the way in... which is the IP on the domain name I have glued into for the announces on HE (not the same ones as these I am announcing here).

IPv6 is the current and anything(cough cough hived, api.hive.blog) not on it are stuck in the past.

It has been picking up higher usage across the world (and in NZ, but still far from perfect). The Government here changed almost every service to also be available via IPv6. Kind of leading by example. The main problem is the default configs the routers people buy come with, which most don't have IPv6 enabled.

Not sure how reliable or complete this is, as "websites" is very generalistic.

I had no idea about that, I will be attentive to any inconvenience to inform you.

No worries... I need people to test, anyhow. Feel free to drop a question anytime if you have any.
