I was browsing some gold notes yesterday when I learned that Valaurum, the company that makes Goldbacks, also makes some legal tender notes for a handful of countries.

I also learned that Valaurum has an online retail outlet, The Gold Domain.

They don't sell the Goldback notes there but they have some of the other products they make in the shop.

There is actually a limited selection of notes at this site and the shipping is $15 minimum, so I won't be ordering from them any time soon.

However, I did find some really interesting ifo in the faq.

For instance, where does the gold used in Goldbacks and other Aurum notes come from?

"The manufacturer of all Aurum®, Valaurum, sources gold from the same refineries that the US government uses. All of it is traced conflict free and has an audited chain of custody with a significant proportion of it being recycled gold. We’re actively looking at ways to offer both artisanal gold and fully recycled gold in the future."

"Yes. Custom designs are fulfilled by the manufacturer of Aurum®, Valaurum. They produce Aurum® for a variety of purposes including commemorative pieces and legal tender. Current gold spot per gram is about $93 * 500g = $46,500 for your own custom designed gold note. Not that I could ever do this but I would love to know the details of a 500g custom gold note order. Fun!
