One million very old copper pennies headed to Coinstar in Los Angeles!

A couple days ago I posted about the 1943 copper penny that sold for over $200,000 US. I also mentioned that in someone's copper penny stash there could be others around. One of those stashes is about to be unleashed. A family in Los Angeles discovered a stash one million copper pennies in the crawl space during a renovation on the home that belonged to the wife's father who was a German immigrant. All were from pre 1982 when they changed over to copper clad zinc. However they don't want to deal with all those coins (being absolute moronic fools.) They put them on OfferUp for $25,000, no takers. Banks didn't want that many pennies so they are talking about coinstar! For those unfamiliar with it, it's a machine that sorts coins and pays you cash minus a percentage for the machine owner. So those of us in Southern California and around the country will want to keep your eyes open for some potentially expensive coins in your pocket change.

I'll be watching out for some of these:

1943 Copper penny, that's kind of a long shot, but who knows?

@silverd510 found one of these in his pocket change not long back. Look at the 1972, pretty self explanatory error.

In 1922 only the Denver mint made pennies, but some dies got the D filled in resulting in no mint mark on the pennies.

Looking at the 1955, this one almost makes you feel like had too much to drink...

1909 S VDB

Not many of this variety were produced.

Prices on all these vary by grade, but many go for thousands of dollars.

That's just to name a few, other rare coins are possible too. Who knows what's in this stash? And since most people don't check their change these might end up around the country. They may visit LA and carry a valuable coin anywhere in the world so keep your eyes open, you might get lucky!

And my disclaimer: Gold and silver stacking can be a fun hobby but isn't for everyone. You can lose money. I'm not a financial advisor and this isn't financial advice, please always do your own research before spending your hard earned money.

I would love to get my hands on those for sure. Those double dies do make you want to rub your eyes. Really would love to have the 1909-S VDB.

I'll be watching my change! I wish I could find a stash like that. The 1909 S VDB I never picked up, I came across one in a shop once at a decent price but it had a big spot of the back, so I passed on it.

This was 25 years ago and I don't even remember how much it was, $250 I think but I thought I could find a nicer one but never did find one at a good price. I probably should have bought it!

Yep, that’s in the pile to be graded. I’ve also found several 1955 double dies in my day. Only one was a nice one though. It’s somewhere in the a box at my private security place.

I have never found a 1955 double die, just finding one that's nice must have felt great!

Can you imagine over 1 million pennies........
I think they're talking about taking it to Coinstar, what are they thinking🙄🤔

That's why I referred to them as absolute moronic fools in the post. If I had seen that on OfferUp and had the $25K at the moment I would have bought them myself!

I definitely agree, some people just don’t have any presence of mind when it comes to anything other than just straight Fiat currency Lol!😇

Many people have been forced to turn in their Pocket Change... That's a good reason for people to Spend Cash, in order to get back some Common U.S. Coinage... There's no telling what a person might find...

I always check the Coinstar machines for abandoned coins.

I have found them there more often than not, people aren't careful with their change!

A million pennies for the Coinstar machine? Isn't it that the CoinStar machines are used to exchange coins tor bigger denominations like paper money?

Exactly! They could have millions of dollars worth of pennies and are going to dump them down CoinStar...

Those machines are pretty handy but it's good to make sure you don't put a 200k coin inside 🤣

They are handy if you've already searched your change. I usually just roll them myself rather than give a percentage to Coinstar though.

Who would have thought something is considered a defect can be that expensive overtime. Maybe when I found one in the future I should keep them. who know how much it can worth over time.
