Things are looking bad in the hive.
I think it is time to do some house cleaning.
We are experiencing a power grab by some the largest accounts.
Today 71% of the hive power is under the control of 269 accounts.
These two panels below show that while the percentage held by whales and orca's has not changed much since the fork, what has changed is the number of accounts.
100 accounts have been consolidated to the benefit of the largest class of holders.
Now, before you think that I think this is the fault of 'the whales' let's get it clear, if nobody sells their author rewards, there is nothing for these accounts to buy.
Our problem is not with 'the whales'.
It is with the authors that are selling them their rewards.
If we carry this responsibility a little bit farther, blame can be laid at the feet of the curators that continue to vote rewards to people that are selling.
I know many of us 'need' our daily rewards to eat, but the fact is before these sellers started posting here they were eating.
So, this excuse doesn't hold much water with me.
The reward pool in the hive is an opportunity to build wealth.
If you sell it, no wealth will build.
You kill your golden egg laying goose by not powering up your rewards.
Most of us will sell at some point.
I know I have a target price set that when reached I will take some profits.
This is as it should be.
But, if you are voting rewards to people to are here just to dump, stop it.
You are killing our golden goose.
If you are one of the accounts that has benefited from this selling, spread your wealth around, there are plenty of liquidity pools with rewards on them now, you can park your hive in them and still get rewarded for hodling.
If you continue to just grow your control of the pool to insurmountable levels you are harming our chances of growth.
Nobody with any intelligence at all buys into a currency that is controlled to the extent of the fiat currencies.
Instead of powering up, consider providing liquidity so that more folks can use HIVE as a currency.
This is in your best interests, too.
If you don't want to trust the level 2 pools, consider delegating to small accounts to water down ya'll's impact on the pool.
More people giving more rewards to minnows is going to bring in more minnows.
Network effects benefit the largest holders the most.
Incentivizing the newbs to hodl will end this slide into centralized control of the pool.
One thing we can do as small fry in the hive is raise our voices against this centralization.
Accounts voting more than 1000mv make it impossible for the smallest accounts to earn curation rewards.
If these small accounts have no reason to powerup their author rewards, they will sell them.
I think this is what has been happening.
Why would poor people try to grow wealth when the hill is sooo steep to climb?
They won't, they will sell and eat their golden egg.
We, the community, are responsible for incentivizing the behaviors in the hive.
If you are not acting responsibly, please start to do so.
If you are a minnow, power up everything you get, you can spend your newfound wealth when it reaches life changing levels without losing your influence to the degree that you do by selling immediately.
If you are voting rewards to sellers, please consider stopping.
If you are managing a curation gang, please consider stopping that, too.
Curation gangs benefit the members most.
They place a disadvantage on everybody they don't favor with their largess.
Every HIVE they give away to their members comes from the smallest accounts here.
No whales are getting pushed out of the rewards pool, only the smallest accounts.
As a curation gang manager you are responsible for making the hill too steep for the minnows to climb.
I know you folks like to pat yourself on the back for how much you 'help the minnows', but that is not how the reward pool works.
For you to give to others you must first take from the weakest among us.
When whales vote, minnows go hungry.
Doesn't that make you proud?

I've been a red fish for so long I'll probably go belly up from the shock of the transformation to minnow-hood. For the most part I have no idea outside of the curation trail thing that you are talking about so if I am guilty in any way of giving a three cent upvote to the wrong crowd please don't hold it against me. I could probably get to minnow-hood if I could just figure out how to finish setting up the hive keys, that's about the level of my knowledge of anything going on around the place.

I used to follow trails, too, but now I follow people.
I'm considering just voting people I follow instead, but I wanted a wider distribution.
It's not so much the curation gang's followers as it is their directors.
Being one of the disfavored for 5.5 years has my hide a little chapped.
I admit it's crazy how they do things but useless to fight with them over it, politics, it's always useless. Same as it ever was no matter how much they want to claim it's different. The deck is always stacked against somebody.
Ganging up is rarely the solution, imo.
