I created my most popular Reddit post ever and didn't earn a single cent from it
Any other gamers feel this same pain? 🎮😫🧑🦯
Who else struggles with the task of trying to continue a game many weeks after failing to do so the first time? Idk about you, but for me, it can be so hard to remember simple things like the controls and typical flow of the game.
For instance, I just re-downloaded Kena: Bridge of Spirits in hopes of finally finishing it. I was too focused on getting all of the trophies when it first came out. Now I kind of just wants to start playing it again and have a more causal experience with it. I’m worried I won’t be able to remember the controls or generally wtf I’m supposed to be doing.
This has happened to me with many games. Another great example is Ghost of Tsushima. I loved it and got the platinum within a few months. Played a ton of Legends. Then put it down for a while. The next thing I knew, Iki Island was released and I had forgotten how to play the game. Luckily I figured things out eventually.
When I tried to get back into Assassin’s Creed: Origins once the 60 fps PS5 update dropped, it was simply impossible and I quit within 30 minutes. It’s a shame because the game runs so well now.
I wish games had a feature that would help re-accustom you to the feel of the game after having been away for a while.
Thoughts?
My most popular Reddit post ✍️
The above question was the post that I made to r/playstation a few days ago. A community with over 667k total members and a ton of activity.
I had an idea for a meme while I was wearing my PlayStation headband and shirt. I was so proud of it that I decided to post it on Reddit and see if it would get any traction. I usually focus 100% on Hive posts, but there is no denying that more people are on Reddit and it is a great place to share memes. So I decided to give it a shot this time just to see what would happen.
Have a look at the results:
https://www.reddit.com/r/playstation/comments/wsi7ea/any_other_gamers_feel_this_same_pain/
Over 500 upvotes and 100+ comments. I was pretty impressed.
Plus nearly 40k views in just 2 days. Not too bad for a meme.
Also, might I add that I've been able to get back into Kena: Bridge of Spirits, and oh my goodness is this game amazing. I've been having so much more fun with it this go around than I did when it first launched. Plus, it was just announced that Kena is getting a huge one-year anniversary update on September 27 and is also releasing on Steam that same day. It's already available on Epic Games Store, but not all PC gamers like to use it and prefer Steam almost always.
You can post, but you can't earn 🚫💰
It was pretty cool to see a lot of people get some enjoyment out of my meme and I also really loved the conversations I had about it. However, I couldn't help but be saddened by the fact that there would be no extra rewards for this.
I have grown so accustomed to Hive and having the potential to earn from every single post/like/comment. Many have still yet to experience this new way of doing social media with a true Web3 option. I promise you that once one realizes this is a thing, it will be tremendously difficult to ever go back to the old way of being used and abused by the tech giants.
Sure this may not be the most popular Reddit post of all time, but it was my most successful one yet. I've made a few other ones that have several thousands of views and lots of comments, but none had reached this level yet. As it stands, I have never earned a single thing from Reddit other than karma. I'm more concerned about keeping a good reputation on Hive to care any bit about my Reddit karma.
What do you think❓
Will Reddit's users ever migrate to Hive? Or will Reddit eventually create its own token and start rewarding its users? If that second one ever happens, I see something like a 75% beneficiary to Reddit coming along with it. Plus, I wouldn't be surprised if communities themselves would take an additional percentage on top of that.
People all want a slice of the pie. One thing is for certain though... once you earn monetary rewards for a typical post, you will never be able to un-see it and will realize that we were getting screwed so hard in the past.
This is why I think everybody in the world should be on Hive, but who am I to tell people what to do?

I think in time many people will come to Hive. Web 3 is much better than web 2. I saw this meme on twitter. It did a great job on reddit too.
You ain't lying bro! About the only thing I miss from the old apps on Web2 is all of my old friends. Really I seem to be doing just fine with the new friends I've met on Hive though.
Just give them some time and promote Hive a bit on the old social media. They will come running here 😂.
I reply that users of social web 2.0 platforms should all migrate to platforms like HIVE. I don't understand why they don't.
They either don’t know about Hive yet, are too used to things like Reddit, or just plain dumb or don’t care about being used by those types of companies. No I’m not calling all Reddit users idiots, I just mean they’re crazy to not at least be on Reddit and Hive both.
There is no place like hive and anyone who is not in this platform presently is really missing out.
I 100% agree with you. Those of you who have found it this early have struck a goldmine or opportunity.
Yeah and am ready grateful for the opportunity
It would be quite tough for everyone to migrate to Hive because not everyone can follow the unwritten rule of Hive as they are all too accustomed with the way web2 works.
Hopefully Hive would gain the popularity it deserves and as well have the right set of minds that would help making Hive a better place
Yes you're correct. There are many community morals that apply here that don't elsewhere. I think stuff like that may relax a little as more types of people arrive. If not, then at least it'll weed out a lot of the bad actors.
What is the incentive of web2? Popularity? Become an influencer and earn some money when brands finally noticed you? I think these platforms will migrate to web3 someday. Meanwhile, #Hive is becoming more friendly to ordinary people. I mean, we have a little complicated learning curvature for non-web3 people. But after registration, things become easier. Currently I’m using web2 platforms like Twitter and Reddit to spread the usage of Hive and promote my content. But soon it will be unnecessary, when you have a great community on Hive, you don’t need that.
Great post @daltono, and I’m like you, I’m spending months to finish Zelda Twilight Princess and I never remember almost nothing when I stop playing for a while 😂😂😂
Have a great Sunday!
Yes I think that’s the point as of now. Amass a huge following and then use them to sell merch and run paid ads from companies. Doesn’t really sound like my jam.
It’s becoming easier to use Hive for sure. We are so much better off than we were before in terms of resources available for new users. Once they get adjusted, it really is pretty simple to use everything.
Twilight Princess is such a long and awesome game. Sadly I took a break from it (and my Switch) and haven’t returned since.
Value 4 value, that's web3 means!
Web 2.0 really sucks here except gaining popularity nothing else to waste time there.
For a gamer I still believe somehow building influence make sense but now web 3.0 hive have own gaming communities, popular posts earn you some money.
I've literally stopped using web 2.0 haven't posted anything in years and won't make sense at all!
I got over the popularity contest 12 years ago after high school 🤣
I still post occasional gaming videos to YouTube, but nothing feels as enjoyable/rewarding as posting to my blog on Hive and using something like 3Speak to host my videos.
Sounds like you’ve moved on to the future. I wonder what is next for us.
If platforms like reddit do end up releasing a token that users can earn on their platforms. And further also provide ways to spend it once it is earned. Then they would've gain some edge on the future of social media. But this tech giants wouldn't have it any other way, they just want to own everything and share nothing with the creators.
It's quite accurate that when you start earning on your posts on Web 3.0, there's a certain nostalgia for Web 2.0 platforms, I'm always reluctant to post on them and when I do scroll through I contemplate what the reward would've been had they posted it on Hive.
The giants love collecting their shiny coins. They are so easily enamored by power.
It feels like nothing more than child’s play when I post on Web2. Web3 feels like a passionate career. Plus there’s the whole benefit of getting to be social still.
On the other hand, Reddit earned a shit ton of money from the content of people like you!
Will Reddit users ever migrate to Hive? They might! If we could spark a conversation around the topic - the best decentralized social media platforms out there.
The numbers just keep going up. As a business, it must be nice to have pretty much 100% of the profit staying in your pockeets.
All these companies want to do is bleed us dry. Content creators on them platforms are pawns to their sales game. Fuckem all! js
Good thing we still have a lot of blood leftover to start fresh someplace else.
I was about to mention Assassin's creed too before reading this part of the post.
But yeah it is normal to feel this way tho.
Sadly, there is no such thing.
I guess this will be a place for promoting products since there is a lot of traffic and attention.
Maybe the traffic might be able to earn you comission if you build a brand around gaming.
What is karma by the way?
With good publicity, they will migrate but it has to be the option that hive is more valuable than the free money flying around.
I totally get tho
AC is by far one of the hardest games to get back into after so long. It also has the most amount of content it feels like, so it’s very easy to need a break from.
I guess karma is just like reputation level over there. I’m not a frequent Redditer, so I may be wrong. I mostly just use it to find answers to questions, very good for that.
I get tired of failing and this is why I actually stopped adventure games.
The last adventure game I played was AC but the last I completed was a ame in PS2
Onimusha was the name.
Atleast, a good use case
The truth is that remembering that feeling for video games must be something that they should have, for example, the last time I was able to play was on a Playstation2, you can imagine how long I haven't played
If you played now, all of these new games would be very overwhelming I’m sure.
well yes with the new technology that there is now everything looks very real
Web 3 is actually the future of social media, Web 2 is trailing behind. Of course we need to embrace this future giant and gain much from them.
It’s true. Each day that goes ok we move closer to Web3.
I feel that pain. These other platforms have very good reach but outside of that unless that traffic is coming to you to buy something or support a stream etc it's totally worthless in the financial sense of things. It's why I feel content creators would move to web3 applications like Hive etc as the user base grows but also for the revenue streams. We just need to get more projects underway that would replace these web2 solutions and then offer up a way to really market them through the users here.
I don’t sell anything and I don’t stream, so there’s really not much in it for me. Where as here on Hive, I feel like there is a whole new world of opportunity.
I totally agree. The more applications we get on hive and use cases not only does it offer up a great way to build community and exposure for content creators but also a way to restore paying content creators and really just people for their knowledge. entertainment etc.
U are daltono, that's who!! :P
but yea, congrats on finding meme/reddit success!
it's not ALL about the money, but it sure makes things feel nicer when u get rewarded for your work..
I'm sure hive gets some reddit ppl since most online types are on reddit or some other popular thing, and then will find their way to hive if they are cool enough. :P
GO WEB3!
It was cool for a day or two and now I'm like why was I over there again? Oh yea, literally only for the memes.
Reddit feels like it should be the perfect place to learn about Hive. Maybe I'm just not seeing the posts about it over there since I'm already on Hive doing my thing.
😂 and about hive.. yea maybe. I personally just stumbled on hive when researching bitcoin.. i was like, ooh, sounds cool, and its free.. i'll check it out.. 😎

Everyone that says 'delete web2 social media' because we have Hive, doesn't get it.
That is where the people are.
Hence that is where your audience/clients/readers/watchers/whatever it is you're after, is.
The key therefore, is to maintain a presence on both.
And use that borrowed Web2 account to onboard your audience onto YOUR Web3 account.
Keep doing what you're doing, mate! :)

I do agree with ya, but it sucks when some places literally ban you from posting just for trying to promote Hive. Pretty much all of my Reddit posts with links to my blog always seem get removed for self promo… when really I’m just trying to get other people on here. Maybe I should just try sharing other people’s blogs there, idk.
To be fair, you're on their site so have to follow their rules.
It's their community and Reddit are rules-nazis haha - That's just how it is.

I know and rule-nazis are pretty annoying, but I guess they sometimes keep the peace.

This is really incredible. Thank you for your work. I'm not usually into games, but this has piqued my interest in partaking in the fun. Thank you for your daily assistance, sir. @daltono
I appreciate it, man. Keep up your work as well, the community loves and supports you all.
I am humbled and inspired. Thanks once again.
Great meme! The thing is that many Hive users don't like short posts that only contain a meme. Most of this stuff still happens on reddit.
Thanks! I occasionally cook up a spicy meme or two. If I had just posted the meme it would have probably been looked at as junk, but I tried to put a bit more into this post so that it was actually worth reading.
do you crave attention?
Honestly, no not really. I'm not afraid of attention like I was when I was younger, but I also don't go out seeking it still. I just like being social and having enjoyable conversations, they don't have to be about me.
Based response that I was not expecting.
I see you put yourself really out there in the world, in front of the lens, so to speak.
For me, that idea is extraordinarily anxiety-inducing. Aren't you fatigued from the facetime? Don't you worry about parts of your personality being changed, maybe more than you know, by having a public persona?
I think the Indians were right when they talked about souls being captured by cameras.
I put myself out there because I know it has made other people happy in the past. I also just have fun taking photos and stuff... and I really only have myself and my gf to take photos of.
I used to want to be more secluded and hated sharing, but I've learned to ease up and enjoy myself in this life. I don't think I am big enough in the public eye for it to alter me in any way. Positive or negative comments are just comments and I will continue to live my normal life without feeling the need to meet specific expectations of others.
Now I did have a friend who was convinced about the photos/soul capture thing. She pretty much always refused to have her photo taken. I honestly think it just stemmed from her being a model and some sort of trauma. She claimed it was all spiritual... but let's put it this way... we took a photo together once and she is still alive and doing well.
Very interesting is your memes really, I havent seen anyone to have such sheer freedom over the timely and artistic use of them.Really great!
Reddit is gaining popularity day by day, no question about that ; but I think that board would need a decades time to be in the shape or the tech view HIVE has.
👍
Memes sure have become popularized worldwide. It is a great way to communicate ideas and get a laugh or two.
It is like that most of the time, when I play conflict global storm, after leaving the game for a while, because of friends they are like a guy what do you even enjoy In action games just shooting, action is for boys while football is for men, after a while when I come back to continue the game even the levels that I pass with ease becomes difficult for me.
It be like that sometimes. It's good to have a balanced life and enjoy many things.
