Do you pickle? Actifit July 29 2023

Now it's the right time to prepare some tasty reserves for wintertime, and not just any kind of reserves, but some lovely pickles. Sauerkraut is a must as well, but usually, that's done later in the year. I know that in many countries gherkins, cucumbers, or cornichons are pickled using vinegar which is a good preservative, but the taste is not at all that great. In this country, most of them are pickled using brine or water with salt to which garlic and other aromatic enhancers like dill, bay leaves, thyme, horseradish, carrots, and cherry leaves are added. I grew up with this taste and it's YumYum! Making and preserving your own tomato juice is also common around here.

Sounds delicious.... and someone has been very busy, with lots and lots of pickles!😄
So many people just go to the store and buy these, so much better tasting when they are preserved yourself!!😄

90-95% of what you find in stores here are vinegar pickles 😩

A lot of work, but worth it I am sure! My grandma used to say you should never eat anything a pig won't eat and apparently, pigs won't eat cucumber/pickles! I didn't always listen to what she said in that regard, and must also confess, whe would still eat the cucumbers, lol!

Thanks for sharing and take care!

Maybe vinegar pickles? I've seen pigs eating pickled cucumbers in salted brine, or maybe the pigs around here are accustomed to the taste 🙄
