A Doshan Prophecy (World Building Notes)

(Edited)

@alonicus released a prompt today asking us to talk about some prophesies in our setting, and discuss a few details about who foretold it, and whether or not it came through. It's an interesting idea, and I do like prophesies when it comes to fiction, as it's almost a way for an author to exercise some plant and payoff.

Here's A Link To The Prompt Post If You'd Like To Get Involved.

Prophesies In The Setting
It's something I've wanted to work on, but haven't been able to include yet in a meaningful way. There is one centered around the Doshan homeworld, where there is a mysterious class of people known as The Caerises - people who devote their lives to studying and learning the ways of their people. These teachings - among other things - centre around the art of meditation, to reach into the Garux Baniruis - the wild mind of their world. They even go deeper than that into Rarium Rilderum - the other side. They go here in order to receive messages from the Biue Deriat - ancient spirits of the universe.

The Caerises, and the Doshan Class System
The Doshan people are born with no last name or connection to any area in their world. They are looked after by the minders of their world, known as The Mulrire who are a class of both male and female Doshan who dedicate their lives to raising the children of their world.

Throughout a Doshans childhood, which is about 100 standard years, they learn to explore, grow, and are shaped by a plethora of figures throughout their life, but they don't spend long with each Mulrire they are entrusted with.

In the wider world of Free Space, this is a pretty unusual practice, but Doshan culture is strict and they have followed this tradition since the Torues Tuquas - the elder days. The rationale behind this tradition is that Doshan's will not form attachments to their blood relatives, and instead, will form close bonds with their people as a whole. The practice began at the end of the Torues Tuquas when their society was uplifted to a new state of being, beyond tribalistic squabbles between feuding families, or waring settlements. In their history, life before Torues Tuquas is also referred to as Tujia Tribuaq - the territory wars.

Because of the destruction they reined on one another, a planet-wide mental shift took place, and this shift brought on so many benefits to their people that it was worth losing physical attachment to family, and home.

Many generations of this practice has led to Doshan life being relatively nomadic in nature, and their true connection is to their world, and all living things that dwell within it.

When a Doshan reaches 100 in standard years, which is equivalent to 18 in Human years, they are given a last name, but this name is determined by The Mulrire who have watched over them for so long.

Mulrire would be the last name taken by someone who is taken into The Mulrire class, and Caerises would be the last name given to someone who would go into the Caerises class.

There are many different classes of Doshan, some like The Caerises means they will be sent to Qenlin Amticuem - which is an ancient place, that was built during the Tujia Tribuaq. Nobody is permitted entry to this region of their world unless they are Caerises, but the rumors of this area state that there are floating mountains, that are kept suspended by the Caerises who are in something referred to as Netitio Nitius - a deep trance-like meditation performed by a group. They also refer to this practice as dreaming. Only the well-tuned in the ways of the Caerises are able to join together with others to enter Netitio Nitius, as it can be dangerous for the weak-minded.

The Prophecy
On a very rare occasion, one of the Caerises will come as an ambassador to the wider world of Dosha, and address the Doshan people with news of their latest discovery.

Once, many many years ago, one of them came, and the address to the Doshan people was that none shall enter Qenlin Amticuem, especially off-worlders.

What's more, no Caerises performing Netitio Nitius should be disturbed and broken from their dream. The reason for this was vague, and over the years it has changed slightly. The general gist of it was that they had opened up a connection to Rarium Rilderum where they are communing with the Biue Deriat.

These ancient spirits of the universe send messages, but it takes many Caerises to interpret them correctly. But, while in the middle of receiving a message the power is so great, that disturbance will break the link completely which will in turn destroy their world.

Dosha During Occupation
Because of this warning, The Confederation's presence on the world of Dosha was a problem. While the Director of the Doshan campaign was relatively understanding, after they were assassinated, the next Director wasn't easily sold on the idea of what he called, "Tribal superstition," and he wanted to see this interesting landmark.

This led to a planet-wide revolt against the occupiers, in order to stop any forces from reaching the Qenlin Amticuem. It was a tough fight, and much was lost in the wake of it, but they did defend the area.

This is awesome - I get the impression there's some really deep multi-layered lore going on here. The idea of a planet where the whole world and it's inhabitants are a kind of single communal mind is brilliant !

I really love the Doshan's, and some of the ideas I have for their world, culture, and people in general.

Although, I haven't spent much time on their world.

Glad you liked this one, I'd really like to expand them a bit more and go into some more details about them.
