The Final Day of Rebellion

avatar

Well, the weekend has come to a close, Rebellion is still on, but we're heading home. We borded a train at 18:40 and should arrive in Holyhead at 12:50 and then our Ferry is 2:10AM which will arrive in Dublin at around 5:55, then there's a bus home at 7:15 which should get us back around 8:20... god, seeing it written out like this isn't nice.

I saw this T-shirt and thought it was so funny so had to pick up as a gift for my partner. She's not really into Black Flag, but for the sake of the shirt I'm sure she can listen to some of their songs.

I'm feeling a bit wrecked, last night in particular was a bit of a mad one. We didn't get back to the hotel until around 5, and woke up at around 10 to clear the room. We got some breakfast. We were pretty hungover and decided to just eat and go to see a few bands we made friends with and then split. But, sure enough we got a bottle and had a drink outside the venue in the afternoon. People had a speaker going and there were a bunch of people hanging out all doing the same thing really. Then this van pulls up, a drummer sets up a kit and this guitarist/ singer said something and out of nowhere they started playing some mental metal/ punk stuff and the the guy was throwing himself around like a looney toon. They were great, and seemed to amp everyone up in the vocinity; they were exactly what I needed to get myself ready for the rest of the day.

We made friends with The Shit Talkers on the first night and they're from Canada. Such sound people. They played today at 4:15 and were really good. After the show we hung out and they gave us two of this record, because after we played on Friday we gave them a few T-shirts and CDs. My record collection has grown to three.

The weekend was amazing and a really good oppurtunity to meet new bands and people. We had such a fun time buzzing around, we even left to venue to see a band we missed.

I got talking to a guy from California from a band called Narcoleptic Youth. We missed them at the venue, but they were playing a small place around the corner on the Saturday night so we wanted to head over and see them.

It was a messy sweaty time, and they were kickass. I actually had more fun around there for their set than I had in the actually venue. I know od prefer grimey little places for gigs rather than bigger places; each are good for different reasons.

Yur Mum was another highlight of the weekend, they're a duo based on London but originally from Brazil and they're amazing; we're hoping to play with them at some stage either in Ireland or England.

There's plenty more to talk about, but I think I need a bit of kip and go into writing a post with a fresh head.

I did have an idea to document little things as I went, but to be honest, with all the music, and talking I barely took my phone out to write ideas that popped into my head, or take photos. But, I did take some videos throughout the weekend. I like to get 1 video per band and managed to do so when I was in a good position where I could see the stage.

I'm going to be thinking about this weekend for a while to come, and I have a feeling we'll be on the bill next year and we're going to have a few ideas to keep costs down and get ourselves out there.

One idea is to print off mini flyers or business card type things to break the ice with people.

I have a feeling that you will even be able to learn a few things from the new music bands that you were able to meet
Am I right?

I like that you are into the other bands and not just there to play your set. Sounds like fun. It may just take you a while to recover :)

Rock on!

Yeah, just a few days is all I need to catch up on sleep and just chill.

Oh, that's the thing, man, I love watching other bands and whenever we play a gig I take it as an opportunity to see some new people, get to meet some new friends, and hopefully find some new music that I'm into.

I also like picking up stuff when a band has something for sale, especially t-shirts, as I don't really have a CD player, but if a CD or something is all they have I tend to pick one up. There were a lot of cool people over there that made an impression on me and I'm hoping to give them a listen on YouTube tomorrow.

Actually, I was talking with The Shit Talkers and suggested us doing a cover of one of theirs and them doing a cover of one of ours in our own styles, just for the fun of it, and potentially each band being opened up to a new crowd.
