Grum Flameblade the Football Player - Splinterlands Art Contest Week 306!

Welcome to another Splinterlands challenge post where I'll be drawing fan art of the Splinterlands character I choose.

The character I've chosen to draw this time is Grum Flameblade.

Grum is a Legendary Unit belonging to the Fire Element, and he's one of the strong Melee attack units in Splinterlands with the Bloodlust and Void Armor abilities.

But unlike my usual drawings that I’ve done before, I decided to change my approach this time. Instead of just creating a new pose for the character I've chosen, I thought of transforming them as well.

Change them in a way that gives them a character that I think suits them. If they weren’t a Splinterlands warrior, what kind of character would they be? Haha!

I decided to draw Grum as a football player character because he looks like an NFL player—big and intimidating. I think this rendition suits him well.

The Sketch

So, the first thing I did was to draw a rough sketch of the character. I gradually drew him until he started to look like a football player. I added armor with spikes to make him look scarier. I also had him hold a football to make it obvious that he's a football player, in addition to the helmet he's wearing.

The Color

Next, I colored the different parts, making his uniform red to represent the fire element. I thought that a combination of red and yellow gold would be a good color for his uniform.

After I colored the parts, I added shading with light and dark tones to give it some shadow and make the drawing less flat.

The Final Touch

For the background, I simply overlaid different colors using a rough brush.

For the final touch, I thickened the outline to give it a comic style. I used a combination of charcoal and rough brush for this.
