Why Am I Diligent? - Understanding What Fuels Me

There was a comment on my last post saying that I am very diligent. Then I asked myself, am I really diligent and why am I diligent?

Today, before 4 am in the early morning, I got out of bed. I went to my workstation at home to start working.

Before I started working, I prayed to God, just like I do every day. I start my day with a prayer, asking for guidance in all my decisions and strength to finish my work for the day.

First, I finished editing the new pictures that came in yesterday, which I need to post on social media because I work as a Social Media Manager.

Next, I checked my cryptocurrency and delegated tokens that needed to be delegated and claimed what needed to be claimed. After that, I felt a bit sleepy because it was still early, so I took a nap again.

I woke up before 8 am, had a quick coffee, then back to work.

I started writing scripts for my TikTok skits that I do daily until I can. I do this because I want to be consistent in posting and not be lazy even if the results of my posts on Facebook reels, YouTube shorts, and TikTok aren't good yet.

After writing the script, I recorded the voiceover for my skit and looked for graphic materials to use for the video.

I do this while intermittently helping out in my mom's shop whenever there's a customer. When I hear a customer, I stand up because my mom is already old, and the items we sell are heavy.

Around 10 am, my wife woke up and said it's time to eat. When she says it's time to eat, it means I have to take a bath first because I'll be carrying our baby while eating.

I smoke (outside the house), and before carrying my baby, I need to take a bath first because I don't want her to smell the cigarette smoke on my shirt, and I might have cigarette dust on me.

After eating, I helped my wife bathe our baby.

Okay, so I was about to go back to work, but I saw that we had a lot of laundry, so I decided to do the laundry first.

After finishing the laundry, I was just about to hang the clothes to dry when I thought of taking a rest first. When I sat in front of my laptop, it was only 1:50 PM, and I was surprised because I had accomplished so much already today.

I decided to write while resting for a bit, and later, I'll hang the clothes.

After hanging the clothes, I'll go back to working on my video and do graphic design and video editing.

Then I thought, yes, maybe I am diligent. I don't complain about the work I do. I'm even more diligent than employees who go to work daily because they go home at 5 pm, but I'm always working until around 8 pm. Maybe it's because I'm just at home, that's why I can accomplish a lot.

But why am I diligent?

I'm not from a poor family, although my family went through a brief bankruptcy when my father's business failed, we didn't end up homeless or without food. My mom still managed to send me to a private school, and I still managed to go to college, although I didn't finish.

So where does my diligence come from?

Although we're not poor, I also know that we're not rich, that I have mouths to feed, and I need to prepare for my baby's future.

But that's not the only reason why I'm diligent. I have uncles and aunties who thought they'd have money forever that their parents left them, so they stopped working, and now they're struggling.

Even though I grew up in the city, our city is not wealthy, there are many poor people here, and I see elderly people still working, some are even physically challenged but still working.

That's also one of the reasons why I'm diligent, because I'll be ashamed of myself if I became lazy.

And lastly, even God worked for 6 days and only rested on the 7th day, who am I to be lazy?

I feel sorry for lazy people, there are many nowadays who take life too easily, and some feel privileged. They don't understand the value of work.

They don't understand that being diligent is a foundation for building a good character and strong values in life.

It's bad to be lazy. If you can, teach the next generation the value of diligence, because if we lose those values in the next generation, our society will weaken even more.
