Horse and Socks

On an old farm where the lush grass is green,
There lived old but fast Horse with strong legs.
She ran through the valley like a free wind,
Horse was free, and no one taught her how to live.

Next to stable, in the corner where garbage was stored,
There were Socks, many single, scattered pairs.
They recalled past adventures and dreamed of new ones,
But no one took them away from stable, so they lay there.

Horse saw Socks and asked with sincere concern:
"Why are you lying here in the corner like dishwater?
You could still be useful, you can still be worn,
You were sent to the trash heap too early!"

Socks sighed sadly in response:
"Surely, we would like to run like you, fast Horse.
But we will never have the chance of being worn again,
All our couples are separated, we are left alone."

Horse came up to Socks and smiled back:
"Friends, don’t be sad, there will be something you like.
Look, I have four legs, but numbers don't matter to me,

Horse put four Socks from the pile on her feet and galloped.
When the first four Socks were worn out, she put on others,
So until the evening she walked different Socks on the ranch,
