A Silver Sol from Peru!

I have always enjoyed collecting coins from South America and would pick them up if I found a good deal. @summertooth shared one of his recently so I thought I'd share one of mine! This is one I found some years ago and still had a scan on my laptop, for insurance reasons I at one point had to go through and photograph coins and I found it faster to scan them and they actually came out nicely.

Peru is a South American country on the the coast of the south Pacific Ocean. It's famous for Machu Picchu, a Inca city ruin that was built just under 8000 feet (roughly 2400 meters) elevation. Definitely worth a visit if you have the chance! Peru has a long pre-Columbian history with multiple civilizations. The Inca were beaten by the Spanish conquistadors in 1532 and ruled Peru until they declared independence in 1821.

**About the coin:
Country: Peru
Year: 1934
Denomination: Un Sol
Composition: 90% silver/ 10% copper
Weight: 25 grams
Diameter: 37 mm
Thickness: 2 mm
Technique: milled
Lettering: Latin
**
The obverse of the coin shows the Peruvian coat of arms and the lettering: REPUBLICA PERUANA LIMA 9 DECIMOS FINO F. G. (Peruvian Rebublic, Lima, 0.9 fine) and the reverse has Liberty seated with the lettering: FIRME Y FELIZ POR LA UNION LIBERTAD UN SOL (firm and happy for the union, liberty, one sol. I love the design of this coin, one of my favorites from South America.

I hope you enjoyed my post and thanks for stopping by. Feel free to leave any comments or questions below. Have a great day!

And please remember that collecting coins and stacking gold/silver is a great hobby but definitely not for everyone. You can lose money and you have to research before you make any purchase. Before you spend your hard earned money always do your due diligence by researching what you are buying. I am not a financial advisor and this isn't financial advice, I'm just a guy who loves coins and gold/silver stacking!

Machu Picchu looks very impressive I would love to visit Peru someday!😀
Awesome Peruvian silver coin, and close to 100 years old, that would be a difficult one to find at the local coin shop!😀
A keeper my friend!!

Definitely, I found that one in a coin shop in Philadelphia when I used to live there. They've gotten more expensive last time I checked on eBay. Machu Picchu is worth the visit, at least once they resolve their current political mess down there. It's a beautiful country!

Peru is always been a major silver supplier, that would be interesting to travel and see some of these historical sites! It would be nice to get back up to 8000 feet as well ( the altitude of our living room in Colorado)!😊
