Silver Walking Liberty from San Francisco

Well I am back on Leo Alpha again, hopefully I'll have some better results with my pictures today! I have always been a sucker for Liberty Walking half dollars, whenever I see one I usually end up buying it if it's a decent deal. This one is no different, I saw it and had to have it especially since it was a San Francisco mint. I only paid ten percent over spot so the deal was pretty good. While she may not win any beauty contests, I still love it! It's pretty heavily circulated but then again it's eighty-one years old so you can only imagine what it was used to purchase over the years!

As I had mentioned in a previous post, this coin was designed by Adolph Alexander Weinman who immigrated from Germany when he was fourteen years of age. He is best remembered for designing the Walking Liberty half dollar and the Mercury dime. He greatly would object to this as he considered himself to be and architectural sculptor. Funny how history decides how you're remembered even though you might not agree, but you won't be around to object... Anyway I digress, back to the coin:

pictures are mine

**About this coin:

Design: Adolph Alexander Weinman

Denomination: Half Dollar US

Mint: San Francisco

Population: 12,708,000

Weight: 12.5 grams

Diameter: 30 mm

Composition: 90% silver/ 10% copper

Edge: reeded**

I hope you enjoyed seeing this pretty coin, although just a little bit worn out. It has already been placed inside of a protective coin holder so no more wear will occur and be preserved for future collectors! Please feel free to comment or ask any questions below, and keep on stacking!

And my disclaimer: Gold and silver stacking can be a fun hobby but isn't for everyone. You can lose money. I'm not a financial advisor and this isn't financial advice, please always do your own research before spending your hard earned money.

I’m done with Leo. I’ve gone through so many issues over the years, this one was a complete drop of the ball. Nice walking Liberty.

It's been frustrating, I've been using Peakd and looking for another platform. Thanks!

He was an excellent designer, too bad the mint doesn't have someone of his abilities around anymore!

As you and I have discussed, the older designs like the Walking Liberty are my favorites. I really dislike today's U.S. coinage designs, at least the obverses. Yeah, it is worn, but like you I often wonder all that it has seen and been through and the people who's hands it has been in what they did, where they lived etc.

Glad you were able to get something done through Leo. I was able to actually get some voting done on a couple polls. Haven't tried much beyond that as I am waiting for the bugs to be worked out for now. Seems like every time I go to post anything it errors out or won;t upload the pics.

This time on the pictures I just did copy paste and it worked like it used to on Beta. I use Peakd more now because of Leo issues, if there were another platform that looks promising I might consider switching.

I like PeakD. They continue to improve and my understanding may be improving upon their UI/UX as well in the future. I use Evency for mobile on the go reading, voting and short comments. Although I am not on the go much. It is usually when I am not in front of the laptop.😀

An iconic design, every time is see it. I have a few in well in about the same VG to Fine condition that were left to me from my Father, then myself adding a number of Type 1 American Silver Eagles to the Stack since. And hopefully be passed on to my kids as generational wealth.

That is a fantastic story, some of my most treasured silver came from my father. It just has more memories attached to it. I hope to leave it to my kids as well, and that he will continue to increase the generational wealth. My great, great grandfather was an incredibly wealthy man, passed in onto his kids and they blew it all in one generation. It's important to teach children the importance of wealth.

I can get into Leo Alpha for posting since the Beta went away. My problem at first is my pictures wouldn't show up. This is the first post they have worked, I just did a copy paste rather than download them. They seem to be fixing the bugs but Peakd is more user friendly and less buggy I'm finding.
