Without religion state is powerless and without state religion cannot survive?

Greetings friends!

Religion always had supported rulers. In fact, religion declared that the king is the representative of God on earth. So, religion paved the way for the 'divine right of the king'. On the other had, king (or state) also protected the religion. King hanged those who opposed religion or who were declared as blasphemous.
