Discovering gold on the reefs of Florida! / Re-blog lottery for 3 HSBI
I've always found treasure hunting along the Florida's east coast to be a lot of fun. Over the years I have metal detected along beaches after hurricanes. A few times I went out diving with a buddy and we came across an old cannon, but there wasn't any treasure to be seen. We thought about trying to recover the cannon but our fishing boat was way too small. It's kind of hard to conceive that there are so many treasures just off the coast that have yet to be found, but there really are.
Continuing my treasure hunting series here is another amazing find. As I discussed in a treasure post not too far back many fleets of Spanish gold carrying ships were lost along the east coast of Florida in hurricanes. The lost 1715 treasure fleet was actually a combination of two fleets sailing together carrying ships full of treasures of silver and gold from Havana to Spain. After seven days at sea they came into a hurricane. Eleven of the ships were following the coast line of Florida up north to catch the trade winds eastward. One single ship whose captain wasn't familiar with the coastline decided to stay further out to sea. It was his lucky day because his was the only ship to make it back to Spain, the others were smashed into reefs along Florida's treasure coast. The Spanish sent salvage ships to recover what they could find and managed to recover some of the lost cargo. But pirates were likely the first to salvage the easy picking off the reefs in shallow water.
Some of the 1715 fleet wrecks were discovered and claimed by Mel Fisher who also found the Atocha wreck. After his death his children sold the rights to the 1715 fleet treasures to Queen's Jewels, LLC owned by Brent Brisben. They subcontract out to other treasure hunters who split the booty with Brisben. The Schmitt family were such subcontractors and spent their summers in the hunt of sunken treasure. In 2015 off the coast of Vero Beach they stuck gold! $4.5 million dollars US worth of gold! It was sitting on a reef in only 15 feet of water; they recovered gold coin after gold coin on a site called the Corrigan's wreck. They also discovered some forty feet of gold chains just sitting on the reefs below.

To legally dive on this location one must have permission from Brisben, likely as a contractor. However there are many wrecks from the fleet that still have yet to be discovered. The likely reason for that is that they sunk elsewhere along the coast and are just waiting to be found. Metal detecting along beaches is also a great way to find the occasional coin as well, but I understand that some counties and beaches are restricting treasure hunting now so if you go make sure to check the local laws first. There's tons and tons of treasure yet to be found on the reefs, on land, and in the oceans. All you need to do is search and get very, very lucky!
I hoped you enjoyed my latest edition of my treasure hunting series. I still love to go out and look for lost treasure when I can. I still haven't hit the motherlode, but maybe someday soon! Please feel free to leave comments or questions below and thank you for stopping by!

Only 15 feet of water amazing!!😳😇
I didn't realize you had to get permission on some beaches as well I can understand the shipwreck sites....😀
The last decade or so it's gotten worse in Florida. There's one county that states if you find a "historic artifact" (i.e. gold or silver) it belongs to them. Typical government greed. Most shipwreck treasure is in very shallow water because they sank on or very near a reef. I think the first part of the Atocha find was in only 35 feet of water.
On the one hand I guess it makes it a bit easier to dive for gold or silver, but the vast amount of coastline still makes it quite difficult!
I guess Government greed is everywhere Lol!🙄
that is amazing, i wish i could do that as well one day
!PIZZA
The Pacific is full of lost treasures too! Most places have some sort of lost treasure, most of the fun is in the hunt even if you never find the jackpot!

That's a dream for me finding some treasure
Wouldn't that be awesome? I keep hoping and searching when I have some free time, being a single dad that will make that hard for a few years. Once they're a little bigger you can take them treasure hunting!
put those youngsters to work soon lol
That's right, put those youngsters to work finding treasure!
Nice story!

I love these little series you do. Nice reads. Wish I could get lucky and trip across something like these treassures. That is about the only way I could probably find them.🤣
I'm trying to do one a week, the last few days have been a little crazy so I'm catching up! Your engagement lately has been awesome, any tips?
You gotta remember, I am retired, so lots of time on my hands.
I got to try and focus more time on engaging I guess. I'm going to also dump a lot more into Hive Power to delegate to ssg.
You do what you are able to do and don't make it into work. Otherwise you will get burnt out on it. What I am trying to say is ensure you keep it fun for you.
Who doesn't like a good treasure hunt? When I was a child I did not stop looking for treasures on the beach but they were only shells for my necklaces.
!HUG
Shells can be treasure too! Thanks for the re-blog! I try to encourage people to look around, there's lots of treasure still to be found out there.

Recently gold coins were found near Javea-Spain just 30 meters from the beach. I live there nowadays (2nd home) and wanted to go snorkling . But you cannot keep anything yourself in Europe!
I've heard that many countries consider it their treasure not yours even though you find it. At least in England it goes to the state but they pay you handsomely for finding it! Of course if you happened onto a gold coin and no one saw.....
Wow, the fistful gold coins is amazing. There's treasure like that all over the place, it's just a matter of finding it!
I wouldn't mind doing some more diving down that way. I was thinking about heading to Florida this winter to do some diving with my buddy, maybe we'll get lucky!
Reblogged, because those coins look soooooo cool!
Wouldn't that be awesome to find?

(no space) to get help on Hive. InfoI never knew about all the treasure off the coast of Florida. Mrs T's family lives in central Florida, I shall have to have a nosey when I am back there!
There is tons of treasure! Sorry I missed this a few days ago. After storms along the beaches where the ships wrecked have coins wash up every now and then. Even in swamps on the other side of the beach people have found treasure washed in by the hurricanes. There is probably more lost treasure off the coast of Florida that anywhere else on the planet.
Ah well it makes sense when you think about for treasure coast!
It's great recreation to go treasure hunting, even though I've yet to find any!
I love watching treasure-hunting movies or documentaries and also these goldrush shows, lol. I can't even imagine how it must feel to be able to find your own treasures with a metal detector. Quite cool!
