Silver 10 centavos from Mexico/ Re-blog lottery!

I've always enjoyed collecting Latin American coinage and so I though I might pull up a fun little coin I picked up quite some time ago. The 10 centavo coin was produced in Mexico from 1905 until 1914. Although it's not a real big coin it does has a nice design and is composed of eighty percent silver. Mexico has had more than it's fair share of political instability over the years but they still were able to produce some beautiful coins.

I had planned on sharing more of a historical background on Mexican history around the point in time this coin was produced. However once I tried to dive into it I realized that it was incredibly complicated as the Mexican revolution of 1910-1920 was coming. So rather than bore everyone with the long and complex history lets just go straight to the coin, a 1905 ten centavos coin pulled from an old scan of mine:

About the coin:
Country: United States of Mexico
Denomination: 10 Centavos
Composition: 80% silver
Diameter: 18 mm
Thickness: 1.18 mm
Weight: 2.5 grams
Edge: Reeded
Mint: Mexico City
Demonetized: Yes
Mintage: 3,920,000

The Obverse of the coin shows the Mexican coat of arms with an eagle perched on a prickly pear cactus with a snake in its beak. The reverse has a liberty cap at top and the denomination below surrounded by an oak and laurel wreath.

These are great to pickup because they are usually relatively inexpensive so even on a limited budget you can pick up some silver in the form of these coins. Of course the higher the grade the more expensive they are, I usually focus on lower grades because I like the silver content more than collecting value. If you have any questions or comments please feel free to leave them below and thanks for stopping by!

Thanks for the PIMP! I fell behind on responses from one of those real life issues, but it all works out in the end! How are you holding up?

What a great wee coin and a hundred years old too!

Engagement is a funny old thing on Hive. Sometimes you can comment away and engage like a madman but not seem to get anywhere.

A reblog lottery is a novel idea!

The re-blog thing has been working pretty well, I am picking up some engagement. Engagement on Hive in weird, you can work very hard for months and pick up almost nothing... The coin is pretty cool, and they aren't real expensive coins either which is nice for investment. How's the weather treating you out there?

Engagement is a fickle thing. Main thing is to keep engaging with people and feeds we find interesting, at least what I am doing!

The weather, ah unreal. We have a tabloid newspaper here called The Sun, so today in the supermarket Mrs T was laughing as she had seen the front page ... The sun is this large burning globe you used to see in the sky.
So yeah the weather haha!

I might have to keep my eye out for these too. If they sell for a small premium over silver, they could be fun. They have a nice look to them. !LUV

Definitely worth it especially in low grades usually a good deal, which is hard to find in any silver anymore....

Mientras que las monedas de gran peso son deseables para coleccionar, las monedas de centavo de pequeña denominación son simplemente divertidas.

While the big Peso coins are disirable to collect it's the small denomination centavo coins that are simply fun to have.

Gracias senor @thebighigg 🌮

I have to agree it is incredibly complicated......
I have a mixed date type set that includes the 10 centavos, and once wanted to do a post and I realized I did not have enough information to do it justice.......😀

Hard to do real justice to it... Mexican history is so complicated you almost need a PhD in Mexican history to really do a good job!

Here in Portugal we also used to have centavos, a long time ago, way before we adopted the Euro.

Honestly I don't either, but it's a Liberty cap meaning autonomy from foreign governments I suppose.
