Silver Proof Abraham Lincoln commemorative dollar coin!

Commemorative Silver coins have always been fun to collect for me. I don't have complete sets or anything like that, I just pick up what I like. On my last spree in the coin shop I also picked up a nice proof silver Abraham Lincoln commemorative dollar minted in 2009 in the Philadelphia Mint. It's a nice coin that was priced really well so I picked it along with the others I have shared.

For those of you not from the US, Abraham Lincoln was the American president during the American Civil War. He was born in a log cabin in Kentucky and raised in Illinois. He was a self educated lawyer who decided to dive into politics. In 1860 he was elected President of the United States. However in 1861 the southern states decided that secession from the country was their only way to protect their belief in slavery. Slavery was then banned when Lincoln penned the Emancipation Proclamation in 1862. After a long bloody war between the north and the south the north won the war in 1865. Lincoln was subsequently reelected as President. Then on April 14, 1865 he was assassinated by a well known actor John Wilkes Booth, who was a southern state sympathizer.

An interesting fact about Lincoln is that he was a professional wrestler before his political career. In twelve years he lost only one match out of 300 and has been inducted into the wrestling Hall of Fame. That is a claim no other US president has ever had and likely never will!

This coin commemorated the 200th anniversary of his birth

I have always liked this particular commemorative, it was well designed and minted. It's available as a regular strike or in proof, which is always my favorite! It's a great addition to anyone's stack and a nice remembrance of American history. Please feel free to ask any questions or leave any comments below. Thanks for stopping by!

And please remember that collecting coins and stacking gold/silver is a great hobby but definitely not for everyone. You can lose money and you have to research before you make any purchase. Before you spend your hard earned money always do your due diligence by researching what you are buying. I am not a financial advisor and this isn't financial advice, I'm just a guy who loves coins and gold/silver stacking!

One of the better images of him that they've used on currency. Apparently he was a really good wrestler!

From what I understand he had a height advantage......
I heard his feet would hang over the side of the bed🙄

Absolutely, it seems every generation is getting a bit taller Lol🙄
I don't know what the average height was back then but it was probably much shorter...

Apparently the US peaked in height in 1996 according to one study and we are averaging 0.2 inches less since. But the trick with any and all studies is they use statistical methods to bend data to their desired results. I've had less faith in most studies over that last twenty years for just that reason. But I digress, we are definitely taller than 130 years ago!
