As a scientist I have always been trained to believe what can be proven through repeatable studies. If you can't get the same results over and over something is definitely wrong with either your methods or your hypothesis. That's how science is supposed to work anyway. Then there are thing that work outside of the normal parameters of science which of gets clumped into the term "paranormal".

I have never really been a believer in ghosts for most of my life. To be honest I'm still not sold one hundred percent on the subject. But I have had things happen that I can't explain with any scientific principle that has left me much more open to the idea of the paranormal. When I purchased my first home it was beautiful. It was on a golf course and recently built and I was the first owner. I had been there with my family maybe a month when something odd happened. All the kids and my ex-wife were on the main floor with me when I distinctly heard footsteps upstairs walking down the hallway. No one else seemed to have noticed it so I quickly went upstairs thinking someone had snuck into the house. All the doors and windows upstairs were locked and no one was there. I never told anyone in the house about it because I didn't want to scare them.

Being a cynic I convinced myself I was hearing things and quickly dismissed the event. Until it happened again about a month later when my ex-wife and kids were home while I was at work. She and the young kids heard someone walking upstairs. I rushed home because they were scared that someone was in the house. Again I checked every nook and cranny upstairs and absolutely now one was there. This continued to happen sporadically throughout the time I owned the home, interestingly only in the daytime and never at night. I never found a satisfactory explanation for this event. Eventually I sold the house as I transitioned to a work in another position in another city.

Another couple of interesting events occurred to me later in my career when I was doing more contract work. I had a family friend in the area where I was going to be working for about a month. She invited me to stay in her guest room which I accepted because it would save on hotel costs. She was an older lady who believed herself to be a witch and spiritual guide, which I thought was absolute garbage, although I never told her so. Did I mention that I am a cynic?

I had been there a couple weeks and was having coffee with her when a black cat appeared down the hallway. I asked if she had a cat (since I hadn't seen one there before.) She said no but said it was probably a spirit guide or "familiar". Having had seen the show "Charmed" I knew what a familiar was but I didn't believe for a second they were real. So I went to find the cat figuring it came in through a window. No cat was anywhere to be found and the windows and doors were all shut and nowhere else it could have come in or hidden. Yes I looked under the beds and open closet. It was a little odd... I can't explain that one.

Then came the weirdest thing. She had some hanging candle holders on chains on either side of her fireplace. They were more ornamental and attached to the ceiling using large screw in hooks. One evening I was sitting reading some work related journals when one of the candle holders began to swing back and forth. There was not a breeze, no vents blowing, no fans and only the one on the right began to move completely on it's own. It was a little spooky, and I don't spook easy. It lasted for a few minutes then stopped. I later asked my friend about it and she said "it's just a spirit trying to get my attention." To her that was a common place occurrence. All I know is something moved it and I still have no other explanation other than paranormal.

These are just some of those odd experiences I've had over the years. I've become a believer in some things paranormal while I remain a big sceptic of many of the "ghost" shows on television. Is there life after death? I hope so. Many of these experiences make me more hopeful that there is a hereafter even though as a scientist I am a natural unbeliever. What do you think?

Ghosts do exist within all of us... The Holy Ghost will make all things clear... The Present bears Witness of the Past, and the Future is always very near...

Our house in Colorado, was just outside BLM land, and ancient Anasazi ruins…..
Doors would open, doors would close…. By themselves!😳
Many old mining towns nearby like Pitkin were a living hell in the 1800’s with many residents being killed !
Someone once stated that ……
“Pitkin was Hades!”😲

There is a lot of stuff we just don't understand. This house was on an area an Indian tribe frequented, that connection always made me wonder. Maybe it was an Anasazi visitor your had there in Colorado!
Those old mining towns were very dangerous with constant violence and murder, having all that past violent energy there's bound to be some activity. In Tombstone, Arizona they averaged one murder a night back then!

Definitely all these topics of ghosts, apparitions and in general all the paranormal topics are exciting. I've read your post carefully, dear @thebighigg, and I found it very
Interesting and exciting. I have never had a paranormal experience myself. However, I had an experience that helped me to cope very well with the dark and lonely places. I used to travel a lot and due to many circumstances I had to sleep, many times, in my car and in places that were sparsely populated and far away from the cities. I learned to fear only human beings. I invite you to read my experience published some time ago here in Hive Blog.

Thank you very much for sharing such extraordinary paranormal experiences. Best of luck and best of luck to you!

One thing for sure, people are the most dangerous thing out there by far. Sad when you think about it...

Just read it over, cool! Most paranormal things can be easily explained away. But there are some weird things out there that can't be. But I stick by my belief you should be more afraid of people than ghosts!

At those times, when I needed to rest during a journey and then go on my way, I always looked for a solitary place where I could be sure that there were no people around, so that I could sleep peacefully in the middle of nowhere. Thank God nothing out of the ordinary or negative ever happened. In those circumstances, to my way of seeing things, the human being represents more danger than a paranormal entity or thing.

Well I am not a scientist, but I am a Chemical Engineer so yeah I am a need to see proof type of guy!

But living in the UK we have shit loads of haunted houses and castles, things happen but the paranormal, I am sure there is something going on, but ghosts well like you it would be great if it was true, but I need proof lol

I would love proof too! I've only had a few weird things I couldn't explain away (and I would prefer to be able to!) Never seen a ghost though...
