This is how I have seen the month of March 2024. An unforgettable month in terms of experiences, challenges, feelings, etc. A complete blow your mind month in a nutshell... and the small moments I had to reflect, did really changed a bit of the perspective on how you see life.

It was not just my personal life situation, but also the rip offs that I saw happening in the cryptocurrency world (these happen specially when the market is quite exciting), the bombings and atrocities around the world (war stuff and others), menacing human society and deterring its evolution.

All have its toll and continue to provoke society ability to adapt. Can you see why the Hive community has such a tremendous value? For example, in the AI world where everything is rapidly expanding, the way we saw the world is never going to be the same, even if we can't currently see it with our eyes. But, day by day, it is progressively changing, as a result of a huge masterplan from large corporations.

Who keeps up with the thinking ahead, will have an advantage...

But I confess that most of this post was actually written on the cell phone. Completely opposing the usual/regular life I had two weeks ago. It was nice to see another perspective of life.

This also means (now sinking in) all my plans gone bush (delayed), and what I was preparing to announce, I can’t! At least until I recover half of the stuff that I now discovered as having suffered some atrocities due to the abrupt power cut.

Plus normal life stuff I need to attend to...

But, going through another month without a giveaway, on top all that has been happening, sounded even worse. So, I have decided to still do the original giveaway rules, but NOW with 🤩 5 winners. Thanks for everyone that provided feedback.

I still have to adapt things to the new giveaway format I am preparing, but for now (and to make my life simpler) will leave the rules as they where, and hopefully next month I can update stuff with the new upcoming changes.

While preparing for all these days, I had to beef up some form of living without grid power, so now I have a massive power bank (1400 Wh) supporting some of the equipment that will be running for Hive and Hive-Engine.

This means I can sustain power loss and still have time to either keep running for a few hours, or turn off things "politely", avoiding any losses or need for recovery. In the near future I will be even be able to run almost interruptedly for what I want to build as "minimal services".

I need to get some more lower power gear (usually to build NASes) that I can then set a light-HE and Hive witness node. Then I should be able to run both easily with less than 50 W, which is sort of my high cap limit (as an objective), resulting in the ability to run that plus another 30 W for the internet access, for almost a full day. 😎

And you can see where I am going... Then, with a solar panel or a wind turbine, I could basically sustain the gear without any costs. Obviously discounting the internet costs, but either way, at least without any running costs.

I am far from saying this costed nothing... obviously the prices of the equipment are just crazy high and impossible to justify the return on investment from the electricity point of view, but obviously I am not doing this because of money, but instead because I enjoy it.

Right, about this one. Unfortunately I ran into some operational design problems, which resulted from the decision of using the server cases in a vertical position. I completely forgot that servers are not meant to be running in this position, and the reality is that the disk weight causes problems with the SAS/SATA connectors in the backplane, creating intermittent connectivity failures when in conjunction with the disk vibrations of the seek activity.

The problem does not exist if using SSDs or NVMes because there aren't any vibrations with those. And because I don't know yet which disks I am going to rely on this year, I am going to pause this project for now, until I finalize the cooling mechanics of the server (still waiting for some parts) and become comfortable the temperatures (the Intel 14900K is a pain in the ass to cool).

Timeline wise is ok, because winter is coming, so I don't need to rush. But I need to make sure it will handle next summer temperatures. Then, I will make a call for either to re-adapt the tower to run the two servers in a different orientation, or if I go full SSD/NVMe (which is quite probable), maintain the vertical position.
